I REALLLY hate admin stuff. (mild rant)

Went to a meeting yesterday. 5 HOURS of griping and bad news. I get REALLY tired of the "we're all gonna DIE!!" leadership approach.

    Bottom line:

The section is using too much gas. 955 gallons in March. I have to cut that by %20 since the city is in a budget crisis. (This is the only place I've ever been where 3% increased revenue over the previous budget year is considered a budget crisis)
They tend to forget that about one third of that use is for taskings from admin outside of regular patrol. (Parades, marathons, concerts, Obama fundraisers etc.)

Staff is practically fainting at OT costs. (Again, parades, marathons, concerts, Obama fundraisers etc.) Looks like regular patrol OT and holiday pay is going to get the shaft there.

The city pays $2.97 for tax-free unleaded. The local 7-11 pays less for bulk fuel than we do.

I lost one of my empty patrol slots. They are going to use it to hire a secretary instead. No, not MY secretary. No chance of filling the other three empty slots.

Since there are manning shortages I have to supply one person on a monthly rotation to whoever cries the loudest. All together that's 5 people gone out of 14. I'm going to have to adjust folks schedules and deny vacations to cover holidays and more special events this summer.

Need to do more close patrols. In order to track this they've come up with a "Close Patrol" FORM. The end result is going to be about 15 extra pieces of paperwork per shift. This despite the fact that CP's are already coded in the officer's CAD history. Turns out our command staff does not know how to access CAD.

No more schools for the fiscal year. Maint budget has already been raided and new Toughbooks are not incoming after all.

On the bright side, I WAS finally given a replacement vehicle for one I've been missing since Thanksgiving. However, since there is no budget for cameras, emergency equipment or computers it's only use is shuttling office staff back and forth to lunch. I'm going to have to see if the fleet guys can scrounge me a lightbar off of a wreck.

And you see where this is going to go, right? Just wait until next month when the fuel usage actually goes UP becuase you have another car! :D (One making extravagant trips, too.)

(I really wish I were kidding about that, too, but I'm not...)
