Sherriff Runs Sex Slave Operation from Jail

This made me ponder the policy of continuing to elect law enforcement officials. What's the general opinion on electing law enforcement officials? It seems to me that doing so relieves them of some certain oversight that municipal law officers receive.

In contrast, I actually believe there is more control to an elected official. Namely because they have to report not only to POST/MPTC etc, but also to the voters. If they do something not in the favor of the voters, the go away. It also insulates them from pressure by the person who appointed them like a mayor.

On the other hand, popular politics now come into LE, but I think, if the office is run professionally, the benefits outway the risks.

But you can also see the genius of it.... by running the prostitutes out of the jail -- he doesn't have to send the guys out to get them - he just locks them back up LOL :D

If convicted on all counts, Burgess could face a sentence of up to 467 years in prison.
Pffft, he'll be out in 233

Just another example of someone giving a bad name to the host of brothers and sisters in blue who do the right thing everyday.

IMO, A Sheriff has more people to answer to than a city police department. I work for a Sheriff's office, and the Sheriff is accountable to the voters, and not to a Mayor or city council, which a lot of times i've seen work out for the better.
