Knox County Maine cops in trouble

So here's the story, it was a stag party for one of the officers. They decided (since they were all drunk) that it would be a cool idea to play with their tasers and tase him and then tar and feather him then tie him to the back of a flatbed truck and drive him around town.

Now, this county doesn't have tasers because they are too poor to buy them so they borrowed the tasers from officers from the other county that were at the party. So good luck in trying to convince the county that these "professionals" need tasers.

Another problem is these officers were presumably drunk driving...that is one of the issues the DA will be looking into as well as internal affairs.

The next problem is how are these officers supposed to go around telling kids they better not be partying and drinking when every kid in the state is going to have this youtube video on their phones and IPods?

Here is the video taken by the officers...

Although there was subjects observed drinking alcohol, I saw no indication of slurred speech or erratic driving on the video.

The investigation should reveal if there were designated sober drivers involved and I do not see how anyone can prosecute for DUI based upon this video.

It does appear there was unwise conduct utilized during this bachelor party, especially in the utilization of the Taser, however I do not see the same dramatic and overblown conclusion as insinuated by Peter.

If anything, I see subjects, especially if any supervisors were present, being internally disciplined for the Taser application. It would actually shock (no pun intended, or is it?) me if there were any criminal charges filed, especially without the complaint of the man who was on the receiving end of the 5 second ride.

Now, on a side note, I do not want to have these guys throw any sort of party in my behalf.

Knowing cops the way I do, it would not surprise me that this was well thought out ahead of time, without any influence of alcohol. I can just see these guys meeting somewhere on duty and brainstorming what they were going to do for the bachelor party. Then someone posed the idea of Tasing, Tar and Feathering, and they all busted out laughing before agreeing and making damn sure the idea did not leak out ahead of time.

The filming of the event was asinine. Never allow recording devices during Choir Practice! (Not that I would sanction misbehavior, just damn good advice.)

Possession of a beer does not indicate drunkenness or drunk driving. Effective FST's do.

The difference between these Officers telling kids not to party and drink is that THESE guys are over 21, and are therefore legal to consume and possess alcohol. Kids are not. There is no hypocrisy as you have alluded to.

The participants in the video were 1) adults and 2) willing participants. They broke no laws.

Did they violate policy? Oh yeah. I'm sure that the Officer who lent the Taser will have about a month of educational retraining and a nice letter to be included in his file.:D

Why is it that some cops never learn that it's OK to do this stuff, it makes us the tight knit group we are. The problem is that you're not supposed to GET CAUGHT doing this stuff! I agree with Cat Doc ... no matter how drunk you are or aren't, don't do "special ops" when there is a camera around!!! :D

I do hope they had designated drivers. I would think that police officers would be at least smart enough to do that. This will be an interesting case to follow.

Thanks for the link Sir. Agree with your analysis.

I think they could make a beer commercial out of this. Something with the groom-to-be saying/screaming "No, BUD light!" while being zapped... :p
