detroit starting pay

They require only a highschool degree, instead of the usual associates degree.

Just curious as to what their starting pay as rookie is, nothing more.

LOL Just take a venture to this website....It is a lot prettier than it really is.

And from hearing and seeing some of the things I have seen, I would not even consider the department personally. It is not all bad, but given the lack of resources, I honestly don't see how the officers down there keep their sanity, even with their meaningless pay. Who knows though, there is a new chief so we will see.

Yeah pretty much anybody (maybe a little overboard but) can get in there.

By no means have i considered joing Detoit's PD. For the reasons you have mentioned, and for all the recent issues dealing with corruption that have been swirlin around lately.

I've checked their site before, but it either doesn't state the entry salary, or I'm just totally overlooking it.

No amount of money would be worth it. Detroit needs a lot more work before it'll be up to par (IMO).

what could be so wrong with detroit. i was thinking it would be a good department for someone who is multi-tasked and likes a bit of action.

Detroit PD has no room for advancement...and to give you another idea...even FELONY convictions are just taken under advisement in their Backgrounds.
A friend of mine dropped in once to apply. He has a 4 yr degree and is MCOLES (Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards) certified as a police officer. Meaning give hima badge and a gun and he is ready to go..no academy necessary, already been through one. He walks into the station and said that it was full of what looked like "thugs" applying...(timbaland boots, jeans rolled up, wave/skull caps...necklaces and chains down to their balls) And they are all being considered. He gives the command desk Sgt his resume...and he looks up and says,..."Your Educated?! And Yo Certifiiied???!!" My friend says "yes I am" "Can you work tomorrow morning?"

A BIT of action..?? Another situation I was involved in, I worked with a Sgt who was an officer for Detroit PD in their narcotics team for a number of years...he has since transferred to the burbs.

Now thats my idea of a day at work-seriously. although realistically, when i marry my g/f and have a baby i might change my mind. but, i might look into them a little harder now.

In the above site...should be able to find Crime Stats, hiring qualifications, pay rates, positions...anything. And i'm sure a simple Yahoo search about Detroit PD will bring up all sorts of stuff. Considering whats going on there right now. Its bad when the FEDS have to step in to clean things up.

At This point...I think they are willing to do anything to help their department get back on its feet. Respectable , qualified candidates are what they need. If that is you, give it a shot. Otherwise., Tx them and see what they have to say

i could handle drugs, murder, gangs but watching lions may cause an early retirement.
