I received notice in the mail today that I was selected for jury duty. Somehow I don't think I'll be selected. :D

civil or criminal. I know cops that still do both, but 99% civil.

I served jury duty on a civil case right after I retired. I know some active guys who had to serve on a civil case also.

I don't know if it's civil or criminal. The personal questionaire listed a police officer as a possible exception to serve.

NY did away with the payment if you're employed by a company with over a certain # of employees. Don't remember what that number is.

My old company, if any payment was received, I would either have my pay reduced by the amount, or have to sign it over to them.

I just got summoned the other day, no date just them telling me, oh by the way... we found you.

I wonder what the chances would be of accidently being asked to be on a jury in your own case... :D My court is a little slow so it could happen.

I got summoned for jury duty, but the day before the court showed that my group did not need to report. Not sure if I am happy about that or not....

Everytime I get summoned for Jury Duty I never have to show up. This last time was for a week after I graduated from the academy. Nice of ICE to pay for me to sit at home waiting to see if I would be called in for the afternoon session.

    Here you go, Darin.
Va. Code § 8.01-341. Who are exempt from jury service.

The following shall be exempt from serving on juries in civil and criminal cases:

    1. The President and Vice President of the United States,

    2. The Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General of the Commonwealth,

    3. The members of both houses of Congress,

    4. The members of the General Assembly, while in session or during a period when the member would be entitled to a legislative continuance as a matter of right under § 30-5,

    5. Licensed practicing attorneys,

    6. The judge of any court, members of the State Corporation Commission, members of the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission, and magistrates,

    7. Sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, state police, and police in counties, cities and towns,

    8. The superintendent of the penitentiary and his assistants and the persons composing the guard,

    9. Superintendents and jail officers, as defined in § 53.1-1, of regional jails.

    (Code 1950, § 8-208.6; 1973, c. 439; 1977, cc. 458, 617; 1978, cc. 176, 340; 1980, c. 535; 1982, c. 315; 1987, c. 256; 1990, c. 758; 1993, c. 572; 1998, c. 83.)
Gotta love the 'shall be' instead of 'may be'. Leaves no wiggle room for the courts.
