    knowledge of illegal activitys

I'd like to see someplace to let police know about someone you know doing illegal things without having to give too much information about myself.I say this because its someone in my family and any information I give will be obvious it came from me.I have spoken to a few retired officers about this, and its nothing they can do, I guess. My 85 yr old father is being abused by my brother that also deals drugs out of my dads house.
Is there anyway for a regular citizen like myself to alert police without them needing to know about me? When I tried to contact police before, I was made to feel like I was the one doing illegal things. I have a lot of respect for LEO, but its very disheartning to be blown off so badly.I know if there was a 'safe' place for people to report illegal activitys, then more people would.Everybody is afraid to talk these days for fear of the 'bad guys' finding out that one talked, and when the police treat one like its their fault, it also makes people tend to not trust police.. I know all police arent like this, but I also know America is sick and tired of all this illegal stuff going on around them.
Id like to see people have respect in the police again, most LEO are not bad guys, and I also know police have a very tough job to do.If there is anyway for the public to be able to talk to police in a safe place, we could help each other.
We are as sick of drugs and gangs and child molesters as the police, if theres a way to help police, Im sure more people would.
    Thanks

As most regular members of this Forum will tell you, sometimes it just a matter of knowing how to look up information, and then using "trial and error". I just did a quick Google search using the phrase, "Santa Maria CA anonymous tip line" and came up with this from the Santa Maria Times:

".... Santa Maria police at 928-3781 or the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers, at 1-877-800-9100."

I am surprised to hear that some in local Law Enforcement may not be taking your information seriously. If you don't want to use the Crime Stoppers number above, an alternative would be to provide the information anonymously in writing, sending copies (and noting in the letter you are sending copies) to the local Sheriffs Office, District Attorney's Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the US Attorney's Office.

It's called 9-1-1. You can call them and tell the dispatcher and they will send a police officer, you can request that the person doesn't know your name. Or you can go to the Police Department, ask to talk to an officer, and explain the situation to them.

Then all these Americans need to grow a spine and do something about it. Liberal attitude is whats sinking this country. Same one thinking "I want suff done but don't want to get involved."

Sad state of affairs if you can't even stick up and help your own father being abused by your brother. Maybe you should take a deep look at yourself, your values, and morals.

As a matter of fact, when the police made you feel like a criminal, here in NY you would be on. You conatcted the police with knowledged of a felony and won't give the details necessary to let the police properly investigate it. That can get you arrested for Obstructing Government Administraion.

Posts like this make me sick.

A safe place to report illegal activities is your local PD, so walk in there with your legit story and nobody will brush you off.

It takes effort and time to see results, organize a neighborhood watch group, keep your eyes open around the community, start going to your local PD community gatherings, get on their e-mail lists and soon you will start seeing things change ;)

In many states, you are a mandated reporter. By law, if you see, know or suspect abuse of an individual who can not take care of themselves...you are obligated to report it. (it is not just reserved for 'professionals')

When making a report of abuse, the police will take it seriously. If you get someone who initially does not think this allegation is serious...try someone else, and keep trying until you find someone you are comfortable with. If your father's Social Security Benefits are also being taken by your brother, you can also report that to Social Security or other boards and agency's.

This is your father who is being abused, who cares if someone figures out who made the report, your FATHER is being ABUSED. Ok, I need to say again...
YOUR FATHER IS BEING ABUSED.......take the 'power' away from your brother, and make the report. Your silence is giving him more fuel to abuse and take advantage of your dad. His drug dealing also has the potential to kill innocent people. (driving under the influence of an illegal substance can..and does kill innocent people)

    It is up to you.

Under penalty of obstruction of justice, you must report this. Elder abuse is a felony.

Every state has laws and a place to report Elder abuse if for some reason you don't want to go to the police. I would still talk to the local police but if not that Look up the Dept of Aging. Call any doctor and ask for an elder abuse hot line number. Look in the blue pages.

    +1!!!!

If my parent was being abused by my brother and I were a private citizen, I'd call the police AFTER I dealt with him and talk about how the house leans a little and doors just have ways of swinging open at the craziest times. Seriously, don't do that. But drop the "I don't wanna get hurt for reporting it" attitude.

I bet your dad would jump in front of a bus for YOU.
