Curious to know your opinions on the latest television shows regarding police issues.
Shows such as...

Third Watch
The Shield
10-8 Officers on Duty
Law & Order
NYPD Blue

I watch Third Watch and the Shield religiously every Friday night, and tuesday night, respectivly (starting in January for the new season if The Shield). But something that is starting to push my buttons is this new 10-8 - Officers on Duty show. It is the LASO show on ABC at 8pm on Sundays. Something about it just annoys the heck out of me! I know it is TV....but just seems too unrealistic, overacted by all actors/actresses, and just plain fake. All this "trainee" talk and this and that. The show is all about its "trainees" and it seems to almost be too by the book, and the characters are just so fictitious. Especially Ernie Hudson's character (John Barnes) Rico's FTO.

Any Thoughts??

Thid Watch- my favorite show on TV. It is seriously gotten way better this year than it ever has, I absolutely love it. I just fear that there aren't enough people that watch it and it will get cancelled...I can only hope it doesn't. I think they may be trying to write a few people off of the show though. Davis, Sully, Doc, Carlos, and Faith all seem like they could be written off pretty easily right now.

10-8- I think this show is good for something to watch if nothing else is on, but I find it was too unrealistic. Even though Third Watch is unrealistic, it is more believable I guess than 10-8 is. I think it is decent though, and will keep watching it.

And that is all I watch.

I heard Barney Miller is the closest to actually showing the lives of cops. Any truth to this?

One Adam - 12 was, and still is my favorite cop show. Given the era it was taped in.....it is fairly believable. Not a lot of blood & guts but their personaities were very believable.

How do you figure that Sully , Davis, Carlos and Doc can get written off??? Faith i can understand....however i think she will walk by the season finale. Carlos and Doc are great characters, but Doc is getting a bit out of control, but i dont see him going anywhere. As far as Davis and Sully go...great combo of officers, dont see them going anywhere either. Sully is by far my favorite on the show. Everything is so Old School...check out his revolver in that old beat up holster he's got, compared to the new young guns, with their nice Semi's. Everyone Loves Bosco, but that is too easy...he is supposed to be everyones favorite, Thats why he isnt mine. Although i Do like his style.
So Metallicat...please elaborate on the ways you predict them getting written off?

Well Davis and Sully are studying for that law exam. Maybe they will both decide to stay on the show, but if they are leaving, them going to law school on TV would be a good way to get rid of them. Doc is going nuts, I don't know what is going on with that guy. If he keeps going, they are either going to have to film some of the show from the Pshychiatric Ward at the hospital, or get rid of him. He may even get fired from the NYFD. I thought Carlos was gone when he had that girl accuse him of sexual assault on the ambulance, but he stayed. And Faith, I know someone else here said she is pregnant in real life, so it is up in the air whether or not she would be back.

Yeah, I think I analyze this show too much.

No you dont...I do the same thing. I never gave enough thought to the Law School thing...kind of slipped my mind they were studying for that. Now that you do mention that though, i can see old Sully reitring <tear>, and going on to become an attorney. Possibly Defense attorney, and keep him involved in the show? Maybe make it part NYPD, FDNY, and Law & Order type thing with courtroom scenes??
I predict Season Finale Faith gets the courage to get out of her chair and do so successfully.
As far as Doc goes, he never wanted his promotion anyways, may get reprimanded for the assault on Eugene, and demoted back to medic....but thats what he wants deep down anyway.
Cruz....well, I'm not going there...mixed feelings.

P.S. I missed Fridays show....can you catch me up with what happened...I got last weeks when Cruz Admitted to what happened and Bosco popped his tire for her....but missed 2 days ago....help me out??

More Davis and Sully studying.

Cruz and Bosco get information from an inmate as to the whereabouts of the guy that killed Cruz' sister, so they go after the guy. FBI is working this one as well, and they rush an apartment building of the guy they suspect is their man, turns out he was the wrong guy, but he had a gun, shot at the cops, but Bosco dropped him with some quick gun work (another office involved shooting for these guys? Jeez. Makes for exciting TV but a totally unrealistic feel.) So they then go to another place and wind up getting into another big shootout with the real guy this time, killing a few badguys...Cruz ends up shooting their man in the knee caps twice.

Carlos' baby that was adopted by another couple needs a bone marrow transplant, but Carlos is found to not be a match for a donor. She has 5-8 months to live or so.

Doc returns to the street as he got demoted for his assault on Eugene, but continues to act weird. He lies about why he is back on the street, and steps over the line on a patient Kim was working on.

I think that is all that happened.


Edit- Yeah I can see Sully retiring as well. I don't really want him hanging around as a lawyer though, and they probably wouldn't do that considering it would take too long for him to go through law school.

I called that demotion didnt I!! LoL. So Cruz and Bosco are working together now? Friends/Foes? It seems to me Bosco is trying to bury the hatchet.

Seems like we ought to just create a Third Watch thread....

You did call it. Yeah, for some reason Cruz and Bosco were in a patrol car together...obviously her stint as an undercover cop again failed, but they didn't talk at all about the rape. They seem to get along. This whole ordeal that went down with this killer was in plain clothes, so who knows what is going on. Where is Nia Long gone to already?

I saw about 15 minutes of 10-8, and I thought it was the stupidest thing out there. It is SO not like real cop-dom. I've never heard of the Shield, and the others I have never seen.
I tend to agree with ya about Barney Miller, although that was about detectives, and they are their own separate entity from my department. I used to love the way they f*cked with Levitt!!! I used to get all the "tall humor" at all my jobs.
