    Awesome night on the scanner

There was trouble at a bowling alley about two blocks from my house, and now an officer in his cruiser spotted a car with the door locks punched about 4 blocks from my house, and the plate did indeed come back stolen. I got the helicopter flying around the house as I think they bailed and ran, but have been aprehended. So exciting! Or maybe you had to be there.

You'd have loved my air traffic last night, metallicat. LOL
I was working on my town channel, and Cop called out with a traffic stop. No biggie. I decided to help him out and run the registered owner (R/O) just in case she was the driver. Sure enough, it came back with license suspended. About 4 minutes into the stop, I called him on the air and asked him if he had the R/O (his MDT was kicking back my messages). He said yes, and I advised him of her license status. He said 10-4 and that he was all set. About 30 seconds later, he screamed out "I need another car!!" (of course, he didn't use his car#, but I knew his voice, so I knew which car needed help). I had about 7 cars responding, and the Sgt. What happened was Cop was doing the field sobriety checks with Driver, and a group of 4 men pulled up on bikes that were with her and started advancing on him. The Sgt, in his effort to get from Point A to Point B, jumped a curb in his car and blew out his tire. The other cars got everyone restrained while Cop finished the tests with Driver. He called out that he was taking her into custody for DWI, and I could hear her in the background while Cop was transmitting to me - she was "MF'ing" everyone around her. Apparently, she kicked the Sgt a few times, resisted arrest, and tried to kick out the back window of the car once they got her inside. Everytime Cop called out on the air, she was screaming in the background. At one point, she bellowed "You MF - suck my left one!!!" clear as anything. LOL... When Sgt called me from the station about 1/2 hour later, she was STILL hollering. Then Cop called me about 20 mins after that, she was screaming at them still - "Did you just call me f'ing stupid? I hear you, MF! I'm not f'ing stupid, you ****** ". Cop was actually pretty bugged by the whole deal. He said this was the worst DWI he has had in a while.
All told, Driver now has the following charges:
    Driving while Suspended
DWI --- she blew a .11 (NY is .08 for DWI)
    Resisting Arrest
    Harrassment
Criminal Mischief (damaging the cop car)

She could have gotten to go home that night, but now she has a new home. LOL

    Too funny!!!!

Oh yeah, and another one.. I am so embarrassed!

I got relieved about 15 mins early at work, and I was going to have the house to myself for all morning, so I was kind of driving home fast (yeah, I know, I was speeding). I just crossed the border into my town, and I passed a cop going in the other direction. I saw him react, and watched in my rear view mirror for his brake lights. Oh yeah, there they go. By that time I was turning onto my street. I was stopping to back up into my driveway when I saw him turning down the street. I backed in just enough so my car was out of the road, and got out as he was about 20 yards away, and slowing down. I stood at the front of my car and he was on the air calling out traffic stop. Since I was in my driveway, I didn't want him calling out the location so everyone at work would know I got stopped again. He called out with "I'll be out at..." and I yelled "Nooooooooo!" LOL.. He stopped his transmission and said "disregard" .. LOL. I'm sure my NOOOOOO went out over the air. Oopsie.

Great stories Stump...I don't know what else you could do about that lady but laugh afterwards...as long as nobody got hurt, the situation turned out OK.

As for the other one, that is just downright hilarious! Do you get pulled over a lot? LOL

Couscous, I don't understand what that has to do with anything?? Its not like I slammed my brakes on, or pulled over to wait for him. I just preferred not to let work know I was pulled over, plus I know the guy so I didn't want to back all the way into my garage and have to have him follow me in. I don't see how that is acting funny.

Metallicat, I actually went over 6 years without getting pulled over, but I was stopped about 2 (?) months ago on my way to work... and now this time, which technically doesn't count because he never activated his lights. :D

    metallicat,
I take it the dept you monitor is not on an 800mhz system because from what I understand they are not supposed to be monitored by the public. If anyone knows info about this feel free to post it. Before I left my dept. they were in the process of switching and have now switched to 800mhz.

The frequencies are 800.xxxx, but people here have told me that it is legal at least in the USA, and a store that I went shopping at for the scanner also said it was legal. From what I understand, I am not breaking the law, as long as I don't "investigate calls" basically. In other words, I cannot get an address, phone numbers, or anything like that and go check things out.

Edit- However, I can see why they should be illegal. It wouldn't be hard for me to do a B&E, and keep robbing the place until I hear the call that the police are on the way. Granted I don't do that, but I can see it being possible. Criminals are probably not smart enough to pull that off though.

We're using the 800 system. Scanning requires the use of a very expensive scanner, which I hope remains out of reach of the average rubber-necker (no offense intended toward the innocent). I think it might also be encrypted, don't know.

They aren't that expensive really. Brand new on Amazon.com I believe had the one I bought for 300 Canadian, however, if the department here goes digital, I won't be shellling out the 1000+ CDN it would cost.

Stump, Didja get a ticket? :D

800 Mhz is not illegal to scan - it's just a convenient way of allowing multiple agencies to share a set number fo channels and keep the comms seperated into specific talk groups. For a couple-hundred bucks you can get a trunktracker from Uniden. I have a cheapie handeheld that lets me listed to the local Sds which is plenty exciting for me...

Yesterday, there was a cow loose on a state route, and a possible "point-19" (Had to look it up - ORC 4511.19 = DUI) called din by a citizen which they couldn't locate.

No, of course I didn't get a ticket. LOL Technically, I didn't even get pulled over since he never put his lights on.
I kind of wonder that if he didn't know me and know that was my house, if he would have pulled into my driveway if I had continued to back up, or would he have driven on once he saw me pull into the garage.

The only reason I yelled NO, and I stress ONLY, is that I know the cop, and he knows me. He'd been to my house before just recently (to drop off a Jr police officer badge for my new nephew). I wouldn't have done it unless I was sure I knew who it was. And yes, these guys are very familiar with me, they know I am a little loopy. :D
I didn't run at him, either.. I stood at the front of my car waving to him with both hands. I wouldn't run at any cop - they won't be looking at my face if I did that, and they might not recognize me.
