A few weeks ago, I applied for a position with the Metro Airport Authority (Detroit Metro/Willow Run) for Civilian Dispatcher through the MCOLES Job Posting website. After I submitted the application, I received confirmation of the application submission.
Fast forward to today.
I receive a call this morning which I missed, and on the message, its the Director of Human Resources (I'm almost positive the Director since it was a secretary when I call back) for the Wayne County Airport Authority asking me to call back. So of course I do and finally we get in touch.
So he basically said, you applied for the Civilian Dispatcher Position correct? I stated yes I did and still interested. Well he then went on and said well while I was reviewing your resume and application, I seen that you worked at such and such health care in such and such town right? I replied with yeah.
So he said well we have a position here, that does many of the things you did at the hospital. He read a description of the position and basically he said, Answer alarms that come in, prioritize the alarm call, dispatch the proper people to it, monitor the CCTV, and a few other things along them lines. He said the pay was exactly the same as the Civilian Dispatcher position, is Union, Benefits included, and so on. He asked me if I was interested and I responded with yeah.
I don't really remember the title for the position since I have never really heard of it before. I think it was something like Security Controller or something different.
He said he contacted me because he liked what was on my resume and my qualifications/experience match the positions description. So when I got to a computer, I logged onto the Metro Airport website and looked for the position. I can't find anything open other then Civilian Dispatcher. So I'm thinking this must of been one of those things where he seen my resume and asked if I was interested before it went public? Maybe? I don't know. Never had this happen to me before. I would assume this would require a pretty big security clearance I think. Then again, its the Government. The final thing is, is it was the Director of Human Resources that contacted me. (Almost sure it was the director as I said) In my past experiences, the Director never did any of the hiring of "street people".
Anyway, anyone familiar with Wayne County Airport Authority/Metro Airport that can give me some information what exactly this may be? He's mailing me out a new application/background check paperwork so we'll see when it gets here. I go next week for an "interview". Like I said, never had this situation happen so not sure.
The position I originally applied for is right here:
