Police in Bangkok launched an operation to prevent teenagers from having sex on Valentine's Day.
A survey found one-in-four teens hoped to mark the day passionately but sex under the age of 18 is illegal in Thailand.
Police ensured the city's parks were brightly lit and visited the short stay motels used by couples with nowhere else to go to check on the ages of guests.
And parents were encouraged to do their bit by making sure their children were home early, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Inspectors from the ministry of education joined the effort, and even young couples hoping to enjoy a dinner date or a stroll faced the threat of rude interruptions.
Police spokesman Suporn Pansuea said: "We will send patrols to check out public parks, restaurants and shopping malls, which are the starting points for potential sexual activities that will be done at home or motels."
Thailand is a mostly conservative country where public hand-holding or kissing are rare and alleged promiscuity among young people, especially girls, is a cause of moral panic.
