Colorado State Patrol Crash. 1 Killed, Trooper Injured

WALSENBURG - One person was killed and three others were injured, including a state trooper, Wednesday morning in serious accident involving a semi-truck in southern Colorado.

A Colorado State trooper was responding to a report of a car that slid off of Interstate 25, south of Walsenberg at milepost 42.

By 8:30 a.m. the trooper had put the driver and passenger in the back of his patrol car to get out of the inclement weather while they waited for a tow truck. That's when a semi slammed into them, killing one of the people in the back of the trooper's vehicle.

The state patrolman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary Corwin hospital in Pueblo.

The second person in the back of the trooper's car was taken to Spanish Peaks Medical Center in Walsenburg and then was airlifted to St. Mary Corwin, as well.

The driver of the semi was also injured and taken by ambulance to Spanish Peaks.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

I can hardly even stand to look at the pictures of a mangled, wrecked, CSP patrol car. Takes my breath away. This is at least the 4th trooper to be in a serious accident here in the past six months.

Prayers to the trooper and his family, and "safe shift" thoughts to all of you LEO's out there on the highways.

Thankfully the Colorado State Trooper was released from the hospital yesterday.
