You know I haven't even looked at the form yet, I will see what it says, I believe you can because I pay for evertything myself, with the exception of my housing.
Why not file? It's free money... and only takes a bit of time to do. It also helps you for when you go out on your own and have to do more than the 1040EZ form. I like the practice, and the money (not the frustration though :D).
Edit: I would also think that you cannot claim yourself if your parents are claiming you. Let them claim you. (correct me if i'm wrong).
I claim myself. Because I'm going to still get screwed over when it comes time for FAFSA  ( I have big issues with FAFSA)
I finally got my last W2 today and checked to see what I would owe or get back on H&RBlock's website I'm getting about $34 back. I'm thinking about sending a letter to the IRS not to bother giving it to me since it'll cost me more to get the damn things filed.

As a general rule, if you have W-2 Wages and/or 1099 Income, it is always a good idea to file your Federal income tax returns even if you did not have sufficient gross income to require you to file a tax return.
For example, for the tax year 2007, you do not have to file a Federal income tax return if you had "gross income" of less than $8,750 as a "Single" individual, or less than $17,500 as "Married Filing Jointly". Gather up your W-2's and add up your gross income AND add up your Federal tax withheld - if your total gross income is less than the applicable amount above ($8,750-if Single), you are entitled to a refund of the total amount of your Federal income tax withheld.
It is not free money, but it is YOUR money. The IRS requires employers to take out taxes from your salary in "anticipation" that you will have a tax liability, or owe money. If you do not owe any taxes, then the IRS has held your money over the course of the entire year without paying you a penny of interest. Get your money back!
Other reasons for filing:
- For tax year 2007, President Bush just signed an economic stimulus package authorizing rebates to qualified individuals. Even if you are not required to file a tax return, but if Single and earned at least $3,000, you may be entitled to a rebate of $300 ( http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/...ate-faqs_N.htm ). You don't get the rebate if you don't file!
- There may be other "credits" which you may be entitled to which you will not receive if you do not file.
- Keep your tax record "clean". Someday, if you apply for a job requiring a National Security Clearance, they will ask to review your tax filing record. "Gaps" in your filing history will raise questions and cause additional unnecessary delays or a DQ.
- Once you skip a year, it is very easy to fall into that trap of skipping other subsequent years, exposing yourself to potential criminal charges.
No one enjoys paying taxes or dealing with forms which seem to have been designed by sadists, but get it done! It is YOUR money ........ of course if you owe money, please disregard! (Just kidding!)

My employer still has till the 15th till I call the IRS on his *** for not getting my W-2's to me on time. I also have another question, I got my W-2's for another job I had, and in the federal and state tax withheld it doesn't have any numbers, but when I look at my pay stubs it says that there were taxes taken out!!!!! WHAT GIVES!!!!!!!
I will be calling HR tomorow and attempt to get a new set of W-2's that has the amount of taxes that I paid into.
I am not saying this is the case, but there are unscrupulous employers who will "withhold" Federal taxes, State taxes, Social Security, and/or retirement money from your paycheck but never payover that withholding to the proper authorities. They will use your money for themselves or to help run their business. Therefore, you have pay stubs showing withholding, but the W-2's given to you and sent to the IRS, the State, and Social Security show nothing because they sent in nothing to them.
These scum are just "crooks", and unfortunately, you are the one left holding the bag. The other authorities are never going to say we know the money was withheld, we never got it, but we will give you credit for it ..... you are on the hook for all of it!
If you have all or most of your paystubs, total up your withholdings to substantiate them, or use them to make your best estimate if you have to use the IRS Form 4852, Substitute for Form W-2. Best of luck to what sounds like a potentially very unfortunate situation.

I was just looking at the employer who I said didn't take out taxes, I looked over a box, they did take out federal taxes but there are no social security or medicare taken out that could be because I am student help. They also did take out state.
Now as for the employer who has yet to get me my w-2's, I will be calling him tomorow to either talk to him or leave him a message saying "Hello (insert name) I am calling you to inform you that I still have not recieved my w-2's, and legally you had to have them in the mail by Jan. 31st. I am asking you to please contact me so we can arrange to meet somewhere so I am able to file my returns in a timely matter. If you do not contact me by thrus. feburary 14th I will be calling the IRS and getting this situation solved though them! Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you."
