    Indiana Residents, Take Note!

    The following are introduced bills that I think will interest you. Please write your Senators and Representatives NOW! If you do not know who your Senators and Representatives are, please visit Congress.org.

    Bills pertaining to concealed firearms
    Indiana Senate Bill 0065:

    Indiana Senate Bill 0066:

Authorizes a civil action for damages, costs, attorney's fees, and injunctive relief to remedy a violation.

    Indiana Senate Bill 0356:

    Indiana House Bill 1072:

Provides that: (1) a notation on a driver's license or identification card indicates that the holder is an individual who is entitled to an unlimited lifetime license to carry any handgun lawfully possessed by the individual; and (2) the holder is not required to carry a handgun license when the individual is in possession of a handgun and the holder's driver's license or identification card with the notation. Specifies that a person who is no longer entitled to a handgun license and who knowingly or intentionally fails: (1) to promptly return a handgun license; or (2) obtain a replacement driver's license or identification card without the specific notation; commits a Class A misdemeanor. Deletes a conflicting penalty. Makes technical corrections.
    Bills pertaining to law enforcement safety

    Indiana House Bill 1074:

    Disarming a law enforcement officer. Makes it a Class C felony if a person knows that another person is a law enforcement officer or corrections officer and the person knowingly or intentionally takes or attempts to take a firearm or weapon from the officer or from the immediate proximity of the officer without the consent of the officer and while the officer is engaged in the performance of his or her official duties. Enhances this crime to a Class B felony if the officer is injured and a Class A felony if the officer dies or if the officer is injured and a firearm was taken. Allows a court to suspend only that part of a sentence that is in excess of the minimum sentence imposed on a person convicted of disarming a law enforcement officer. Requires a prosecuting attorney to seek a sentence of death against a person who: (1) kills a law enforcement officer acting in the line of duty; or (2) whose murder was motivated by an act the law enforcement officer performed in the line of duty. Provides that, in the trial of a person charged with killing a law enforcement officer in the line of duty or in retaliation for an official act of the law enforcement officer, a jury must recommend either a sentence of death or a sentence of life without parole if it finds that the state has proved that the defendant killed a law enforcement officer in the line of duty or in retaliation for an official act of the law enforcement officer. Makes conforming amendments.
    Indiana House Bill 1081:

    Resisting law enforcement. Makes resisting law enforcement a Class D felony instead of a Class A misdemeanor. Makes the offense a Class C felony if a person: (1) uses a vehicle after a law enforcement officer identifies himself or herself and orders the person to stop; (2) attempts to obtain possession of certain weapons from a law enforcement officer; (3) causes bodily injury to another person other than the law enforcement officer; or (4) operates a vehicle in a manner that creates a substantial risk of bodily injury to another person; while committing the offense. Makes the offense a Class B felony if a person: (1) draws or uses a deadly weapon; (2) obtains possession of certain weapons from a law enforcement officer; (3) causes bodily injury to a law enforcement officer; or (4) operates a vehicle in a manner that causes serious bodily injury to another person; while committing the offense. Makes the offense a Class A felony if a person operates a vehicle in a manner that causes the death of another person while committing the offense. Makes conforming amendments.
    Immigration enforcement

    Indiana House Bill 1262:

    Police enforcement of federal immigration laws. Requires the superintendent of the state police department (superintendent) to: (1) negotiate terms of a memorandum of understanding (memorandum) concerning a pilot project for the enforcement of federal immigration and customs laws; and (2) designate appropriate police employees to be trained under the memorandum. Requires: (1) the superintendent and governor, unless otherwise required by the applicable federal agency, to sign the memorandum on behalf of the state; and (2) the state police department to apply for federal funding for the costs associated with training the police employees. Provides that a police employee certified as trained may enforce the federal immigration and customs laws.
    The "In God We Trust" license plate

    Indiana House Bill 1103:

    In God We Trust license plates. Specifies that an In God We Trust license plate is a special group recognition license plate, and makes conforming amendments. Repeals and relocates language concerning the charges for, and distribution of the fees related to, registration for an In God We Trust license plate.
