    Help with history

Hello all - I am currently doing a virtual reality paper for college. I am trying to find definitive moments in US history that changed law enforcement. If anyone can give any suggestions on where to look or what to look up on the internet, PLEASE HELP. Oh, and this dates back to the 1600's Thanks. Bobby

    1) The appointments of the first thirteen US Marshals (1789), which was the establishment of the nations premier and oldest federal law enforcement agency (don't listen to those Postal Inspectors; they lie ;)).

    2) Miranda v Arizona, 1966.

I'll pm you my rates and PayPal info.

THe first state police in the US was the PA State Police founded in 1905.

Starting in 1907 and for the next 56 years , they only accepted applicants who were single.

    Miranda vs Arizona

You get to read the information though

To be honest in order to write a decent and accurate history of law enforcement in this country, you need to begin by looking at the earliest settlers. How did they deal with crime?

Then you add to it the addition of firearms, the change from revolvers to semi auto, the call box, the patrol car, the portable radio. The addition of long guns, body armor and SWAT

You can look at important case laws such as Terry and Miranda. Historic events- OK Corral, LA Riots of the 1960's and 1990's, LA Bank of America Shootout of 1997, The 30's gangster era,

The list just gets bigger, be careful though, you might want to consider coming up with a synopsis before you begin writing, otherwise you might end up writing 1500 pages of law enforcement history

Great places to find this information is on the internet, at your library. Look under law enforcement history, or criminal justice. Almost every law enforcement text book I have seen has some history in it.

    Good Luck

    U.S. Supreme Court

    Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1 (1985)

    Argued October 30, 1984

    Decided March 27, 1985*

    471 U.S. 1

Held: The Tennessee statute is unconstitutional in so far as it authorizes the use of deadly force against, as in this case, an apparently unarmed, nondangerous fleeing suspect; such force may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.
