    Just a thought..

    Hey guys,

I'm an avid gamer, yet I'm increasingly irritated at the lack of decent police driven games there are out there these days. (Anyone remember Police Quest? ;))

Some of you may have heard about, seen or played the Army's recruiting game, America's Army, so I was thinking, with the right pushes at the top, could the same kind of thing be implemented for cops too? I was really impressed on the game that you had to complete your training to get qualified to play, and the training was taken from real life. All I want is a realistic simulation of what it's like to stop a shaky perp on the highway when your license check comes back 'Stolen' - I want a simulation where split second thinking is key to getting that collar and I want a simulation where you deal with real situations, no matter how trivial, to practice people skills.

I also think this would bring a huge boost to police recruiting. What do you think?

They've got these. They're called FATS machines (Firearm Training Simulator). The officer and his partner stand in front of a movie screen and work through situations.

If you were speaking more towards a console or PC game, then no thanks. If I turn one of those on, it's usually to escape reality for a few minutes and relax.

I think it sounds like a good idea, but just for a dose of reality, one of my current favorite XBox games is Need for Speed, where one of the objects is to run from the police.

The problem with a good realistic game about police work is that you'd have hours of paperwork to complete after completing each level. Then when you have to testify in court everything gets dismissed and you have to start the game over at the beginning.

    :D

I'll just put my player name as Chuck Norris and not even have to chase the perps. I'll just spawn and everyone will automatically be arrested and jailed.

Re: Super Six 5, I wasnt referring to professional simulators, I was referring to something that could be public access, and could boost interest in law enforcement. I can sympathise with you not buying it though, heh ;)

This would be really cool. If they ever did another edition of Police Quest, this would be the style they should follow.

FATS machines could definitely use an upgrade to computer-based rendering, if they haven't already. It would allow for infinite flexibility, instead of being limited to the possibilities on the LaserDisc.

The last FATS machine I used was old, so many things have probably changed. I'm told the department has recently acquired a modern version, too bad I'm not allowed to play with it anymore. :(

The EVOC simulator was fun, though.

PC all the way. Console games lack depth.

I always wanted a graphical simulation where you're the chief or sheriff and have to manage/hire/train/etc officers and staff in 'random' situations that come up over time. The day to day stuff still happens but it's a sim, so you don't have to micromanage it as a cop.

I have a question about my background and hope you can answer it for me. I've always wanted to be a cop but I've done some things I'm not proud of.

    The Bad:
I've tried pot experimentally 128 times from 8th grade through college.
12 times I tried Ecstacy but that was only experimentation.
I think someone slipped PCP in my drink 5 or 6 times at parties.

    The Good:
    I just got my GED.
I've never been late on a rent payment to my mom for living in her basement.
I got to level 85 in Police Sim and topped out my rank at commissioner, I'm BORN for this job and I just know I'd be great at it! Also my dad was a cop so I heard his stories and know all about it.

Do you think I can still get hired?
