LE is all about integrity. He might have gotten away with this this one, but he will get caught out, and it will be far worse for him when he does than missing out on an internship.
The fact you now wish you hadn't told the truth to leave the option of you lying open to you in the future, says more about your character than you telling the truth in the first place.
