    Never thought this would happen

Last night, we two deputies are on the way to a domestic in the middle of nowhere.
Dispatch gets a call of a possible drunk running at high speeds.
Drunk is headed for one of our small towns.
By the time the city officer gets to the highway, all he can see is taillights. He is in a pickup.
After 3 miles, I ask him if he is gaining any? No, they are pulling away.
I tell him to shut down and return to his town.
He is just out of the academy and I know he would have rather chased for a bit longer.
He took it pretty good. I told him it was mostly for safety reasons.
He didnt have any backup for 15 miles if caught he up with them and he was more likely to take out a deer than catch them.
The chief is off on medical leave and in the hospital.
The number two man called and I explained what I did. He said no problem.

Never thought I would call off someone elses chase.

    Yeah, Im getting OLD.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL

Well in your position you made a difficult yet proper decision. I am stilll new to the job and rely on guys like you with experience to tell me to dial it back in. This guy will do something stupid again and he will get caught.

The problem with this job is you never know how many people you save or how many crimes you stop just by driving by. Unfortunately there is no statistic for that. You made the right call. Good job.

I would have wanted to chase them in to the ground and I might have been a little upset about you calling it off, but once the dust settled I would have realized that you did make the correct call.

And the reason is that you know the job and come home safe and alive daily. Good job, bro. Watch the rookie again, some day he'll say thank you.

There are two things I'm good in, the second is arresting people

I'm looking for Drug/Narcotic Unit patches together with DUI/DWI unit patches for a frame in our Anti-Drug-Team bureau

Also looking for Massachusetts Police and US Capitol City PD patches now!
