Dont know if proper forum...but ive seen alot (mostly locked) topics where the people complain your all 'mean' 'rude' etc...

All i have to say is, these people got to see a military forum! Ill tell you what, these guys are MEAN lol..im just kidding. But you guys are nice by comparsion. trust me

It only gets mean when someone tells Norm that an autoloader is better than a revolver. Otherwise, its pretty calm:p

A big part of the problem is that some people get in trouble with the law - or they have a friend or loved one with the trouble ... in any event, they do an internet search and wind up here.

They sometimes expect the membership here to assist them in beating or getting out of their charge - that is something we just don't do.

They sometimes expect us to believe their word over that of the actual police officer that issued the charge against them (and isn't here to defend themselves) - that is something we don't do.

They sometimes use run-on sentances and write like they are not yet out of the 6th grade. They get made fun of for that too.

They sometimes write a book, when a paragraph will suffice.

In any event - they come here, do something idiotic, or expect us to take their side or something - then call us mean, unfeeling, and tell us that we are the reason "most people don't like cops"

They lock the threads because they don't want scary people with bullets the size of cruise missiles and a throw radius of 1100 miles getting mad at each other :D

When someone really wants to complain about us, I send them over to the lighfighter forums. They tend to be a bunch of professional, squared away guys.... who show no restraint to idiots!

I think part of the problem is that a lot of these people come on here expecting the PC versions of ourselves that we must present while on duty. I think they really expect all the "yes, sir" and "no, sir" stuff.

They forget that we are "off-duty" here, and we didn't necessarily join this site so we could politely listen to their BS and whining with the empathy they think we should have. Here, they will get mostly uncensored insight into what we really think of them. :cool:

I post on a couple of other sites where we are all like nuns compared to how they deal with trolls, or people coming in looking for a fight.

I watched one where a guy came in and started some mess on a board that is primarily special operations and intelligence personnel. The members politely told him to stand down or they would find him. He got worse, telling them that he had taken steps so that no one could find him.

Taking up that challenge, some of the members went through his old posts, traced his IP, figured out the service academy he was attending, and had an old and dear friend of the Commandant of the university call and report what the guy was doing and saying, and then posting the Commandant's reply that he would take care of it.

It frightened me just to watch it happen.

They just did something similiar to a guy posing as a fomer special operations group member, resulting in the unraveling of a false resume that had obviously taken this guy years to build, and contacting his employer, and the French Foreign Legion, from whom the guy had deserted from years before, and providing his location to them, and forwarding a copy of his falsified DD214 to an FBI agent who specializes in prosecutions of this offense. :eek:

Trolls get it easy here. :D

Spending a little time at Socnet. com will disabuse anyone of the notion that this site has sharp edges. Those guys have redefined 'zero tolerance' to a negative number; they're a joy to watch.

I don't know how much advice I actually have for folks who feel that the Internet's to rough for them. The only computer-based activity that's less intense than this is being one of those tube-people in The Matrix, but who want's to hang out with Keanu Reeves all day?
