Angry Need new duty weapon management will do nothing

Currently I am working as a armed security guard and carry a S&W 4046 DAO 40S&W. Ever since I began working with this company and carrying this weapon I and my other co-workers have reported on multiple occasions that our weapons have failed to fire and jam up every time we have used them. As of late management has still done nothing to fix this problem except blame the workers for the weapon problems. Currently 90% of our staff are ex-military and most are ex infantry so we know how to clean a weapon and take care of them. Just recently we had our state and fed quals and during the 90rnd interval I had at least 11 jams in which four of the jams were click no boom jams. Today I shot it again and had 2 weapon jams in 16rnds. Currently we are at a loss on what to do seeing as management will not even consider our pleas to get us new duty weapons. Out of the 22wpns we have 17-19 of them jam almost regularly.

Now I consider myself a perfect employee. All i want to do is got to work, do my job, get hours, and get paid that is it. I don't like getting involved in all of the drama or politics of the security world but when it comes down to equipment that can save my life, a co-workers life, or an innocent civilians life that is when I become a little agitated and begin rocking the boat.

Also, I fully understand my job, my authority, and all of the other stuff that others seem not to. I leave the police alone, they leave me alone, unless of course there is an incident and then I will handle it accordingly until the real cops show up and sit back and watch. But will also defend myself, or anybody else that needs so to the extent that the situation requires.

Can anyone here tell me what to do about this? Is there anything we can do or is just a lost hope?

Thank you for any and all help guys it is appreciated.

I think there may be three questions I need to ask first off.

    1. Are the guns brand new or are they hand me downs from somewhere? (Military, police, etc...)

    2. What type of ammo are you using? **** ammo can be a problem when it comes to feeding/extracting and squib/dud rounds.

    3. Have you tried to contact S&W, your armorer or a licensed gunsmith about the issue yet?

    1. Are the guns brand new or are they hand me downs from somewhere? (Military, police, etc...)

I am sure you already know this answer:D They are cheap hand me downs I am not sure from where. I know they bought a couple off of gunbroker recently.

    2. What type of ammo are you using? **** ammo can be a problem when it comes to feeding/extracting and squib/dud rounds.

Federal Hydra-hocks (issue), Federal HST's, Winchester Rangers, Speer gold dots, and the regular range ammo. All have problems not sure what is the worst because I was an idiot and did not keep track like I should have.

    3. Have you tried to contact S&W, your armorer or a licensed gunsmith about the issue yet?

Our gunsmith is in Virginia, and the company will not pay to have the guns looked at. I have personally spoke to a couple (gunsmiths) and it will take at least a week for them to look at them. We cannot work w/o our guns. Also spoke to s&w and it is pretty much the same as above.

Document, document, document. Then let the management know that you have done so and have the data necessary to bring a lawsuit against the company in the event that a misfiring gun causes a death or serious injury.

It shouldn't have to go that far where an innocent person gets hurt or killed.

Companies generally only care about profits. If they can get away with giving these guys substandard equipment they will do it until there is a problem. The best thing for him to do is submit his issues to the management and document everything that he has done to try and correct the deficiency as well as the responses he is given.

In the State of Washington, all firearms used by State Licensed Contract Security Guards must be owned or leased by the company. Drkknghts co. currently only issues the SW 4046, hopefully they'll wise up and go Glock.

You're right, it shouldn't. Unfortunately in the private sector, security departments are a zero gain, and more often than not, a loss of profits for companies. Companies usually balk at spending more than they already have to on the security department since it won't make them more money

Exactly I myeslf and my co-workers are kicking ourselves in the butt everyday for not doing this, but as of late we are documenting everything hopefully we are not to late.

This is a tough question. We do but we don't do not ask how this is I don't know. We are beginning to get union reps and get a union in place.

100% agreed it shouldn't have to come down to someone getting hurt but right now our options are kinda thin. Trust me if they sent me something that said I carry my own personal weapon but it had to meet the criteria I would be the first one at the gunshop tomorrow to pick something up. But unfortunately we do not have this option at this time.

Hopefully after we finish up with all of our documentation and all the other stuff we are doing they will wise up and go to a glock. Even if I had to buy my own and lease it I would be more than happy to do so.

The number of people I know who carry S&W semi-automatics and absolutely hate them far, far, far outweigh the number of people I know who carry them and like them.

When I go the academy to help out during range week the running joke with the instructors is that the S&W armorer's kit is located in the blimp hangar down the street, and it fills the whole building.

I was wondering if you were gonna chime in Norm:D You will be happy to know I am a proud owner of a my first wheel gun I bought a Taurus 605 because of the issues I am having w/ my duty weapon.

Does anyone know where I can get any more info on diffrent problems w/ this weapon. I have googled it to death and couldn't find much info. Or am I just a retard and missing it.

We have turned in five formal letters to management and received the same stuff. It is our fault that the weapon is not working.
