Cruise ship Jumper

What an idiot, for anyone that do not know the story, a 24 y/o man jumped from a cruise ship into the water around 12:45 am last night. Witnesses stated that they saw him jump through the ship's window. Apparently the idiot was intoxicated. He was found about 8 hours later, real lucky to be alive. Nothing else has been said, but can he be arrested and charged? I think he should and made an example of.

This isn't a funny matter, and because of his stupidity, the Coast Guard were dispatched out to look for the sucker. Who is going to pay for that? They are here to help stop smugglers, ships and boats in distress, and keep our waters safe, not cater to stupid people. I would like to see him arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct and fined for the dispatch.

May sound overboard to most, but hey this is my opinion and not knowledge of your job. The young man was a brite young man last night.

Maybe not criminally charge him. But, I guarantee that if they get a civil judgement against him for the cost of having Coast Guard helicopters, boats, and crews look for him for eight hours, he will wish he had been sent to jail for a few months instead.

If he wasn't intoxicated the only other thing that I can think of is do a medical mental evaluation.



Either way this guy won't be too happy because them USCG rescue/recovery fee's aren't very wallet friendly ;)

I think they should just ban alcohol from being sold aboard cruise ships...it would solve alot of problems for sure

may not be a solution- a big ship hmmm, and plus people are very innovative: ex taking a scope bottle fill it with vodka with a few drops of green food coloring, peroxide bottle for beer and listerine bottles for rhum. iI had the pleasure of being educated on the process, was i amazed - never heard of it. People will always find a way to get their regular dose of alcohol.

Also, I wonder if the cruise ship itself was delayed by this jackass. If so, I hope every single one of the passengers sue him for wrecking their vacation.
