    COPS Television Show

I first watched COPS when I was very young and ever since I've wanted to be a police officer. Does anyone know any of the officers that have been featured on COPS? I know they filmed with the Passaic County Sheriff's Department in Passaic County, New Jersey, where I am originally from, but I didn't recognize any of the deputies. Has COPS ever filmed with the NYPD? Do you like the show?

Cops is somewhat accurate but I definitely wouldn't use it as a gauge for what police work is about. They ride with those guys for a long time until they get something to make the show. It isn't all fun and games. To answer your question though they have had recent ones in Pittsburgh but I don't know anyone personally.

Most activity is on the weekends. Those are usually drunks. Sundays, we always refer to as, domestic disturbance days.

I worked with a Sgt. who made several appearacnes, a foot pursuit across a freeway, and a vehicle chase! He HATED talking about it, so we'd bring it up...constantly.:D

yes cops has filmed with the NYPD. I did catch a portion of an episode with NYPD, and it was back when the light blue shirts were still worn. Don't know if they've done any with the current navy blue uniform shirts.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

I'm not sure about any officers from my department on COPS, since we were only featured once before ripping off the concept for our own short-lived show. I know lots of officers from "LAPD: Life on the Beat," though.
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.

We have one agent who was on it the first year it was on, when the show was just Broward SO, who is the guy who gets one handcuff on a subject who takes off running, in a drug bust.

Despite his constant pleading for the instructors to stop, they still show the clip in our training academy as a good example of how not to try and handcuff a subject. :D

The closest COPS ever came to me was Virginia Beach Police way back in the early 90s. It was pretty much the same caliber of knuckle dragging drunks that were on the New Orleans COPS specials. I don't know any of the Officers. However, I do know a few Detectives that have made appeareances on America's Most Wanted.

Unfortunately, COPS isn't an accurate depiction of the whole picture of this profession. But then again, who would want to watch an Officer doing anything less than high speed/low drag stuff on TV? If you saw an Officer sitting in front of a computer doing reports for an hour, you'd change the channel.

They showed us a COPS compilation video the other day... The general subject was how NOT to conduct yourself in a persuit :D

It seemed to me that the cameras may make people do things that they ordinarily wouldn't do - I've been on ride-alongs where short persuits ensued, but I never saw any of that type of stuff happen. Maybe I'll see it eventually.

I like to watch COPS to pick out the officer safety issues.

I arrested a guy a few times who was arrested during an episode of Cops. Does that count?
