Always be aware of your surroundings...

Folks, this happened in our courthouse. It is a good reminder why you should always pay attention to your surroundings and to not let people get too close if you can help it!!

Wow. Disturbing video with a great outcome. I bet that dirtbag still has no idea how close he came to dying that day. The second deputy appeared well-prepared to use deadly force.

That second deputy stood there watching for a while and never really did anything. I was expecting him to start pummeling the guy.

Seriously. Good on those guys for the outcome, but this is a training issue. That second deputy stood there when he was in a perfect position to pummel the hell out of that guy's face, and pummel he should have. Secondly, after a few hits, they should have forgotten about trying to get around the counter and trying to control the guy with only one arm. That ****** should have been yanked over the counter to THEM, NOT vice versa.

    Glad they're okay though...

I kept wondering when that was going to happen.

Holy crap!!! That forearm should have had a shape like the counter did (90 degrees pointing at the floor  )

Thank god it didn't go bad.

It makes me think that maybe he was doing something like that to get into a gang (MS13??). Why would an asshat try and do something like that other than being a retard?

MS-13 usually recruits at a very young age (early teens) and uses beat ins.

That guy was likely disturbed or suicidal.

Hmm. I'm not an LEO but from what I've heard and seen and other things such as that, that should've gone a lot differently. I have to agree with 121Traffic about the guy going over the counter and not the other way around. At that point, it was looking like it could've gotten ugly. Luckily in the end everything was ok. Some additional training wouldn't hurt though.

That wouldnt happen with my gun because I can barely get it out of the holster (new holster triple retention) BUT by monday for First Inspection at the academy I will be getting that in and out quicker than you can say "Recruit what the HELL do you think you are doing"?

It really is a shame they didn't help him to the ground a little faster.

First of all...good weapon retension by the deputy. Even though the dirtbag got his hand on the weapon, the deputy put pressure on his weapon with his arm and lowered his center of gravity so the other deputy could start working on him. I'll give him that much!

Could've very well been an MS-13 recruit. We've been hearing that they're out to start kill police officers for months now.

Yes good point on the weapon retention, thats what kept him alive and kcking. I do doubt that it was MS-13 though, aren't they almost exclusively an East Coast gang? Plus like Valor55 stated, they usually recruit pretty young.

wow that is a very stupid move by that man... I'm glad it didn't have a bad outcome though. Was it proper for the second officer to pull his gun in a situation like that? It seems to me like it could be very easily taken from him with the suspect at such a close range like that.
