My first department in the mid 70's had a policy, if you can qualify with it, you can carry it. We were limited to guns made by Colt & S & W which still gave us many options. A few guys carried the S & W modle 29 .44 magnum. It was cool watching them qualify. A few others carried the Colt Python 357 mag, 6"bbl of course. Pretty much the rest of us carried a version of the Colt .45 acp. We never had a duty related shooting the 3 years I was on that department.

Doesn't matter- I'm wearing camoflauge, you can't see me anyway.

I love this gun! My father-in-law has one he lets me borrow to go to the range, but I want one for my very own! (his brother has one too, the serial # actually ends in 357)

    Actual conversation with suspect
Suspect: Why am I under arrest?
    Me: For posession of CDS.
Suspect: Man, it wasn't CDS! It was E pills!

If at first you don't succeed. . .don't try skydiving!

Note: Any laws I quote or mention pertain to the state of Maryland unless noted otherwise.

I have a Python also. Paid $175 for it. Sweetest action of any revolver. They go for about $1000 now, if you can find one.

That sucks! I hope it's not that way with the PD's in Utah. I hate the way that the Glock fits in my hand. I'd much rather have a Sig, HK, or XD.

My agency issues a Glock 22. If you would rather have a Sig 229, they will get you one of those after you graduate from the academy, but you have to take a transition course for it. Of course, you can always buy one from an approved list (Glock, Sig or H&K, in 9mm, .40, or .45), qualify with it, and carry that as well.

My department issues the Beretta Model 92 FS Inox (Inox means stainless steel apparently) for most officers and the Beretta Centurion for Lieutenants and above.
