HB 2109: Proposal to protect VA deputies

Virginia Delegate Charles W. Carrico has introduced HB 2109, a proposal to amend Virginia's Law Enforcement Officers' Procedural Guarantee Act. The current law, which specifically excludes sheriffs deputies, provides basic guidelines for internal investigations of officers accused of misconduct. If HB 2109 is signed into law, those basic guidelines would be applicable to sheriffs deputies that are accused of misconduct. I encourage all Virginians express support for HB 2109 to their representatives in the state government.

No disrespect intended, but if we all have an attitude like that this bill is sure to fail. I don't know why so many of us are willing to surrender before the fight even starts on this issue. Make your voice heard, and encourage others to support Virginia deputies. I guarantee you that the other side of this battle is willing to fight -- let's give it 110% until it's over.

Oh I agree and I have given this my support since even before I was a deputy but the VA Sheriffs Assoc is too strong and they oppose this. Our old Sheriff never did support this and the other Sheriffs let him know they didnt like it at the conference. I hope and pray it does but I and the rest of us can only do so much behind the scenes

Maybe the Virginia Sheriff's Association should survey its members to see how many agree with their political actions. If they only want to look out for the sheriff and not the deputies, they should come right out and say it. I wonder why their unwavering opposition to bills like HR 2109 is never featured in the magazine that they send to all of their members.
