I am planning a trip to New York City in March and this will be my first time going there. I was trying to find the traffic laws becuase someone told me to be aware that it's illegal to make right turns on red lights but I can't find what I am looking for. Anyone know, is this true just in NYC or for all of NY?

In NYC its NO turn on red unless posted otherwise. On Long Island its ok to turn on red unless theres a sign stating NO TURN ON RED.

I think you are allowed to do that here as well..I don't understand why traffic laws arent the same throughout the U.S. though. I'm so used to making right hand turns on red, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it if someone hadn't brought it up. I'd hate to end up with a ticket over vacation though due to my lack of knowledge about driving in the city. Anyone know where I can find the traffic laws?

No turns on red in NYC due to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
