Try this search under "Firearms". Each agency issues different manufacturers/ caliber and each officers' preference is different. You could ask ten people their opinion about the same weapon/ caliber and get 10 different responses.
I carry an agency issue Glock 22 with 180 grain hydroshocks. Do I like it? Maybe/ maybe not. Doesn't matter, it all pays the same as long as I have a functioning weapon when I need it

My question is this. Why is everyone so interested in what the other guy/ agency is carrying? If a person has "handgun envy", go buy what you like.

I was actually expecting 10 different responses I was just curious as to what people have and what they like.

Can you be a bit more specific on which pistol you will be carrying?
Not being up on the troopers in your area, are they getting Glocks in .45 acp or .45 gap pistols to carry?
My agency doesnt issue. We provide our own handguns.
My two authorized carry handguns are the Browning HiPower in 9mm
and the Springfield LW Govt Model in .45 acp.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
I carry a Glock 32 in .40 cal. It is certainly an upgrade from the 9mm Glock I used to carry .
I like the Glock and since I am not a big handgun nut , am happy with something that is relaible, shoots decent and doesn't have a manual safety.

My hopeful agency will be giving me a 40 cal S&W. The Troopers are getting Glock model 37 45 G.A.P. Apparently they decided to switch after an unfortunate death of a Trooper earlier this year unfortunately I am not familiar with those details. I also will have to qualify with a AR-15 which are now in the patrol cars here post columbine.

Roger Dat, you're working for NYSP ?
Just curious, that's my dream
Glock 22 [.40 cal]
Its easy to use/clean and has 15 round hi-cap mags (a nice +). Butttt... If I had a choice in what to carry I would go with a 1911 or Beretta 96. But thats just me.

OK thanks
Well we are issued the Glock 17 which is 9mm but are transitioning to Heckler & Koch P2000 in .40s&w.
Statistically if you look at the data the difference between what the .40s&w and the .45acp expanding hollow point ammo will do, damage wise, isn't that different. For that matter the 9mm isn't a lot different either. A lot of the hype of the .45 is psychological, it's just that people THINK that it will shoot out their gun and hit the bad guy causing his body to explode into a million pieces. Realistically the outcome of a shooting is WAY more dependent on your shot placement and the type of ammo you use and not the caliber you have. When all the data is looked at and the pros and cons are compared the .40s&w round is probably the best LE round. You get sufficient penetrating and damage ability, it has more punch than the standard 9mm but doesn't have the extensive noise or recoil of the .45.

True accuracy counts but your likely hood of a one shot stop does increase with a heavier hitting round. the 5.56 ss109 rounds we used in Iraq are capable of doing the job at range and from a real world got the tee shirt done that standpoint If I were clearing a room Ill take the 9mm or a 12 ga. And more often times than not M9 Brettas were handed froward if somone didnt know we were there due to the higher percentage of one shot stops. Amd they also seemed to draw less attention to us compared to the M4's report or a 12ga. In my tatical mind a Ultimate 3 weapon package would Include .45 1911 H&K or SIGARMS, .308 Battle Rifle ie M14, DSA's FN FAL ect. And a good old handy pump (remignton Mossberg winchester fill in which ever floats your boat) 12 GA with 00 Buck in 2 3/4 shells.
Its a shame we destoyed quite a few Colt 1911's over there with stamped markings "Properity US Govt" right on the side would of been a nice little part of history to take home.
