Question For LEO's and those in process...

I don't know if it's just me or if a lot of cops dream about their job when sleeping. I'm starting the academy in January and pretty much every night I have some kind of dream that relates to LE. So anyway, I just wanted to throw this out there to LEO's and those who are in the process...does anyone else seem to dream a lot about this stuff? I personally believe that when we dream we simply dream about the things that are constantly on our mind throughout the day, but then again there are several psychological beliefs out there about dreaming. What do some of you think? For you LEO's: If you did dream a lot when you first started, did it ever stop? Do you like dreaming about it, and can any of you some how control your dreams? I'm sure when you get off duty, the last thing you want to do is deal with more "LE" issues in your dreams...I'd imagine you would want to have clear thoughts and enjoy the time away when you have breaks. I searched and saw there was a thread about someone having a specific dream, but I kind of wanted to expand on the topic a little more and see how your sleep habits are (haha, so try not to bust my balls here ;)). Be safe, and thanks for the responses in advance!

I too have dreams about LE while I have been processing. Its not every night but it definitely does happen. Its hard not wo when you really think about it alot during the day especially when stressing over important parts lol.

    You are not alone.

I dream about nekkid women :D

Actually, I do dream about work occasionally. It happened more frequently when I first started and when experiencing things I never have experienced before. Now, I may have a dream about work here and there or especially after a traumatic event.

I would dare say that the majority of officers have had the "usual" LE dreams such as: Gun will not fire, bad guy will not go down no matter how many times hit, cannot run fast enough to catch bad guy, etc.

I dreamed I caught on of my employees smoking pot and I fired him immediately. Better than some dreams I've had.

Bingo! I had a dream like this and it was insane, almost like a nightmare... I emptied an entire magazine and the guy didn't go down. I prefer not to have LE related dreams, but I imagine since I'm in the FTO program right now there's so much on my mind all the time that I can't help it.

Only every once in a while. Like Insayn it happens when something major goes down. Otherwise it's very rare. I think it happened more when I was getting started and I thought a lot more about the job.

I daydream about possible scenarios I might have once I am able to pursue my love of law enforcement. Then I watch CourtTV, and the dumb show "Most Outrageous" goes and dirties my thoughts with the worst policing scenarios EVER.
Like on a simple traffic stop, a cop got pummeled by a pro boxer, who then pistolwhipped him 10 times after the cop's gun jammed. Or in teen police academy when we saw a video of a trooper getting slowly killed with an AK47, that was brutal.

But yeah, I dream and fantasize, among other things (:D ), about possible scenarios and simple pullovers.

I'd read about "cop dreams" prior to coming on the job in some LEO publication or another. Apparently it's quite common for LEO's to dream about our guns not firing when needed, the rounds not affecting bad guys, not being able to get someone in custody, and so on. When I was an armed security guard (long before coming on the job) those were the types of dreams I had.

However.....Since becoming an officer, when I've dreamed about such things my gun works, I always hit the 10-ring, and I end up putting the bad guy down for a dirt nap. :D

I don't know why my dreams now have different outcomes. I can only chalk it up to a subconcious total confidence in my training, whereas before I had none (training OR confidence in my abilities).
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.

Years ago when I was on a Drug Suppression Team, I had a dream that my partner and I were setting up a buy/bust at the local college. During the bust the dealer took cover and started shooting. Now in real life I pride myself on my shooting abiltity but in my dream it did not go that well. When I took a shot at the dealer I somehow hit my partner in the face, who was nowhere near the dealer. Remember dreams don't need to make sense to scare the hell out of you.

About a week after the dream our team leader wanted us to set up a buy/bust at the very same college. I told my partner about the dream and we opted to have another DST team take that one.

    Coinsidence?

I used to have dreams once in a while about getting hired or going through the academy or just general patrol. Real basic stuff, nothing outrageous. Most of my dreams revolve around every day stress such as school.

Now that I'm taking a corporate job, I try not to think about LE too much.
"Cheshire Puss," she began, rather timidly... "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where..." said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
