I keep having the dream in which I'm shooting at the bad guy and the bullets dribble out of my gun like drops of water. It's so darn frustrating, but nothing a reassuring day at the firing range can't cure!! :D

This is the same one I had the other night and it scared the crap out of me...the guy turned into the hulk except he wasn't green :p

Wait until you actually start doing Police work...you will literally be dreaming about it all the time. It's like my mind doesn't get to play catch up until I'm in bed asleep. I've actually woke up knowing the name of a suspect that I couldn't remember on duty because my mind was so busy. I had a dream once that I couldn't get my Police car to slow down. I'm about to go to sleep here in the next few minutes and I bet I dream about Police crap.

It's like we take in so much information in the course of 10 hours, drive all over the city, talk to so many people, defuse situations, do reports, follow up on reports.....and then, lay down and go to sleep. But my brain is still out on patrol. It's really strange. Took me a while to get used to. For a while I thought it was a bad thing, but I got to talking to other Officers about it and found out that it's normal.

Although I used to have the same police work type dreams when I was just starting out; your weapon would not fire, you couldn’t run after someone in the dream no matter how hard you tried, you tried to swing at someone but your arm went in slow motion, etc., those type dreams stopped quite a few years ago.

Since we are on the subject of dreams, I would like to mention something.

Not trying to sound like Dr. Phil, but if you get reoccurring dreams of a disturbing nature in reference to a critical incident you were actually involved with, you should take advantage of your EAP and seek confidential help.

Dreams of this nature are indicators of potential PTSD and your subconscious has not put them to bed yet. No offense to any of the fellow LEO’s in here, but an untrained brother cop is not the best person to seek assistance from. Go see a professional counselor. In the vast majority of agencies this is a free package offered in employee benefits.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

I'm in the process for IEA and I had a dream last week where I was working as an IEA but couldn't find my uniform or badge or anything else. Maybe it's because I wear a uniform now, I don't know.
