Hmmm... Seems like 2500 ft-lbs from a .308 woulda at least knocked him off-balance, though - Maybe it was a light load ;) Of course, Netwon's law says that the shooter and rifle does experience the same energy as the target, so maybe not. A 200+ pound man doesn't accelerate much in a few milliseconds, and that was hard armor that spreads out the energy over a wide area.
