Well I just finished my first week on the road, and I'm having a blast! My FTO and I work the 3-11 pm shift, and he's really big on working criminal stuff (drugs), so we get into a lot of good stuff. He is everything I hoped for in an FTO, and I'd put him up against all the others in a heartbeat. He loves to teach and explain things, and treats me more like a partner than a trainee...really makes the whole process enjoyable.

We're working 8 days straight before getting our two days off, and I don't even mind....I look forward to going to work every afternoon. Can't believe I'm getting paid to do this!!

Which area of the state are you FTOing in?

I'm in the same county you are in. Actually, today we're assigned to selective enforcement on your road (288). So if you see a blue and gray sitting there, you know it's us. :D

Well I work the beat that borders 288 from 76 down to 360. I'm on 3-midnight shift. I'll try to jump on 288 a few times and see if I run into you.

Make sure you're in triple digit speeds to wake them up. :D

You read my mind. Unfortunately, our MDCs (which were sworn by the chief to not be used against us) send a signal if we go over 80. When the bigwigs look at all the signals they got, they match them up to calls or see if there's a traffic stop immediately afterwards which indicates they wen't over 80 to catch up to someone. If there's a signal without any explanatitory call or traffic stop, they come ask you about it.

Yeah. I remember when we got the MDC's the chief came to roll call and said to the shift that they WILL NOT be used to spy on us or used against us in any way. They are a tool to help us do our job.

Good to hear that you got an good FTO. With an good teacher on "the road" you'll learn more than an teacher in an classroom can teach you.

Actually, we got checked on a couple of times by your guys to see if we needed any help...thought maybe it might've been you. Guess not.

Hey, you sure you didn't pull a fly-by on us? Some guy blew by us so fast we heard him long before we saw him. Never could catch up with him.
