The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum seems to be a quite popular attraction. If you're into that kind of thing, that is.

Arlington Cemetery... Changing of the Guards.

They have the bus tours that pretty much show you the bread and butter of DC. Not sure how much it is.

We took the kids down to DC for a couple of days after Thanksgiving. The police memorial is near China Town just a couple of blocks from the Metro.

We did the war memorials. Walking from the Smithsonian towards the Washington Memorial (get on line or call ahead for tickets if you want to go up) the past the WWII memorial and post the reflecting pool. To the Viatnam Memorial. All that I remember of that war is the church bells ringing when they said it was done and yet it is incredibly moving.

The war memorials are all together and the Lincoln Memorial is at the end of the reflecting pool. It is walkable.

Contact your Congressman and he/she can arrange tours of the Capitol and the Whitehouse but they need to do it for you. You knew they had to be good for something ;-)

The mint is only open MOn - Thurs.

AAA has a good tour book with great information to help you get around

If you want to do something that's a little off the beaten path, try the Frederick Douglass home, called Cedar Hill. The view from the house is pretty awesome, and the house has a lot of original pieces inside. The site is in Southeast, which has a bad reputation for crime, but once you get there it's relatively safe; it's run by the National Park Service.
