    15 years jail for Burglary?

Just watched It Takes A Thief, the episode where the guy actually gets caught... The presenter said words to the effect of; "If this was real, he'd be looking at 5 to 15 years in jail" The 'burglary' netted them something like $20-25k in property.

Is that accurate? 5 to 15 years in jail for a residential burglary? Or is that a little bit of TV dramatism...?

Burglary is anywhere from a Class 6 felony to a Class 2 felony... I thought a Class 2 was up to 10 years in prison, but don't quote me on it.

I'm guessing that it has to do with the state law, as well as the fact that since he openly advertises that he's an EX-burglar, he probably has a prior or 2

In NC, a first degree burglary conviction will land you anywhere between 38 and 183 months in prison, depending on the defendant's prior record and whether there are aggravating or mitigating circumstances.

The police had been notified of the film crew's presence in advance. So when the neighbor called I am sure the call got top priority. Notice the officer drove right up to the house. BAD officer safety, because he knew it wasn't real.

In Texas, residential burglary is a second degree felony if theft was the only motive, which has a penalty range of not less than 2, no more than 20 years in the pen. Of course, many get probation or paroled way before the full sentence.

Common law once held provisions for the death penalty for burglary so 15 years next to that would be a bargain.

Around here we had a guy rob 3 local banks over the summer. He was finally apprehended and confessed to the robberies. He only got 1-3 years consecutive sentence for each robbery. 9 years for scaring the crap out of about 10 different tellers. Now THATS just wrong! Worst part is he will probably get out in 3.

Has his federal Case went through yet? He'll get some years from them.
