    CG Rescues Former Pro-Football Player
    U.S. Coast Guard | PO James Judge | November 23, 2006
MIAMI - The crew of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., helicopter found a former pro-football player, who had been missing since Wednesday evening, in Buttonwood Canal today.
Ken Duke, a Georgetown, Del., resident and former Baltimore Colts player, was reported overdue by his family at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Duke departed Flamingo Bay boat ramp in a vessel he had purchased Tuesday for a day of fishing in the Everglades National Park. Duke had been expected to return around noon from the voyage he started at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Upon receiving the report the Coast Guard immediately launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Miami and searched throughout the night.

The Coast Guard then launched a H-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., to conduct a first-light search this morning. The helicopter crew found Duke at about 9:08 a.m. and vectored a National Park Service vessel to Duke's location to assist him. Duke reported that he had become disoriented and could not find his way back to his departure point.

"I'm pleased with the combined rescue efforts of the Coast Guard and National Park Service Rangers which resulted in the location and resuce of Mr. Duke. We are also very pleased to be able to reunite Mr. Duke with is family on this Thanksgiving holiday," said Coast Guard Capt. Scott A. Buschman, commander of Coast Guard Sector Key West, Fla.

Coast Guard Station Islamorada also assisted with the search.

Duke was drafted to the Baltimore Colts in 1966.
