Just curious if any cops have a Private Investigation business on the side to make more money and also for some more adventure?
I know some police departments do not allow for this anymore, which ones do/don't?

I get all the adventure I need at work. Following a cheating husband or disability fraud would be pretty tame compared with work anyway.
Most agencies forbid private investigation because there is a conflict on interest. They don't want you using your police powers off duty like that, it can cause negative perceptions.

In Pennsylvania, you can't obtain a private detectives license while employed as a police officer.
What he said!
Not sure about any laws at the state level, but it is barred via policy here as it would/could be a conflict of interest. Also you may not work in or own a liquor store or a tow company... I'm sure there are other jobs that would be looked down upon, such as a consultant for a defense attorney:D
I use to work for one.

Same policy for MA's. We also need written authorization to perform any type of security or public service.
The last I'd known is that a person needs to be a former Law Enforcement
Officer to be a P.I. in California. :D
Please update me if that has changed of late....

I am "certified" as one, but don't handle private investigations. I have to have it because my occasional part time job involves performing surprise contraband inspections for a very large company here in the states.
Meh.

Politicians are like diapers- they should be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.
