    Off the hook!

Tonight was crazy. We were insane busy. An early call, I was not involved with, was a robbery. The guy fled on foot. K9 tracked to the gun and the money and the supect was nabbed a short distance away by other officers.

Then we got a stabbing. This guy got ventilated. He had multiple stabs and cuts all over. The two big stabs on his chest were all opened up and you could see meat and organs. The one on his leg was pumping blood. You know it's bad when rescue looks at it and quickly racks them up and runs off to the hospital without the normal stabilization.

Right before end of shift I was wandering around looking for two gang bangers in a car who just tried to rob someone. I saw them and they ran from me. We were all over a neighborhood, constantly making turns. Two different backups took up secondary with me but couldn't hang and lost us. Finally the guy pulled away from me in a straightaway I wasn't willing to do 70 on. He totally lost it in an intersection. A hump in the road threw up the back end and he fishtailed off the road. Tail light, headlight, tail light, headlight, tail light, headlight... The car actually damaged part of the roof of a house before taking out the porch. Shiny side down, greasy side up. Not only did they live but they crawled out and ran which only made it easy for the K9 to get a bite and other officers got the other occupant a block away.

    Good times. Good times.

I'm 3 hours late for bed.

Dang, Monday being my first day off since last sunday I was going to tell about my week, but after this. 4 DUI's, two chases, suicide attempt, 2 felony drug arrest and 5 warrant arrest; just doesn't stack up to valor. Ohh well, benefits of working in a city not a small town po po like me.
Why is it that all these jerkoffs seem to know about the right to remain silent, but I have yet to find one of them to actually exercise that right. -Legoate

I got stuck trying to climb around the one side of the car where all the debris was from the house. This car tumbled up a hill that I had to climb. K9 went around the other side where it was clear. I knew the dog was coming and wasn't anxious about being in front of it. I pointed where the suspect was and he released the dog. I checked the inside of the car to make sure there wasn't anybody left. The other dude got a better head start but he was in his bare feet (his shoes were jammed in the car) so the officers up the hill on the perimeter nabbed him.

I'm getting some pictures from some of the guys on scene and I'll post them when I have them.

The crash was so spectacular everyone wants to see the video, unfortunately the unit I was in has a broken camera. No video...

I should have some still photos soon.

Fire spent a good 30-40 minutes onscene cutting the porch down to make it safe. Then two different tow companies attempted to extract the car. The first one gave up and the second one had to bring in all kinds of heavy equipment to get it.

I knew the guys I was working with were competent and able to get the job done, I didn't have to do everything. We must have had 6 or 8 units on the perimeter so I knew they wouldn't get far. I kept passing marked cruisers but nobody could keep up with me.

On a side note the owner of the car lent it to these guys to go grab some food (read: he got crack in exchange) and they heard the sirens outside. They were in a house about a block from the crash. His girlfriend stepped out in time to see his car go roaring by with me behind him and then she saw them wreck it. Her words to her boyfriend were along the lines of, "Your car just exploded into something." :D

There are very few people that I know (including my father) who went home at the end of the day, knowing that they had done their duty to the best of their knowledge.

It must feel great to know that you are doing what you are meant to be doing.

Police arrest men in connection with 1 robbery, 1 attempted robbery

Police have arrested three men in connection with an attempted robbery and a robbery.

Early Monday, police were called to the 1000 block of Norfolk Avenue, where a man said two acquaintances had threatened to rob him.

Police [me!] found a car matching the description of one used by the suspects. The officer [me!] tried to stop the car, but the men fled, eventually losing control of the car and crashing into a home in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue, police said.

After the crash, the men got out of the car and ran, but both were caught not far from the wreck, police said. They were not seriously injured in the crash.

The two men are charged with robbery and felony eluding.

On Sunday about 8 p.m., a man with a gun robbed the Apple Market in the 400 block of Elm Avenue, police said. The robber obtained an undisclosed amount of money and left the store, police said.

About 10 minutes later, an officer arrested Lance Linwood Martin, 37, of Roanoke in the 900 block of Sixth Street. He has been charged with robbery.
