Our department just went to 12 hour shifts, therefore I will have alot of down time. A local Macy's is hiring part-time Loss Prevention. Does anybody know how much they pay? I dont want to waste anyones time if it is pretty low. Thanks for the help

Why not go in & find out?
Are you allowed to work loss prevention while employed as a PO? I'm pretty sure that we're not allowed to work as LP (in addition to some other types of employment) while also employed by the city as a PO.
DONLON
I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

That reminds me...hehe
We got a call from a local check cashing facility that a customer had written a couple of hot checks and had just written another and needed to file a report. When we showed up the people said it was written by the guy that worked loss prevention at the Sears across the street. What a maroon.
I worked for Macy*s when I was in college. I'd suggest you think long and hard before working for them. Just a suggestion.

I agree with CTU. They pay 10-11 dollars a hour. (When it was called Marshal Fields). They are quite...yeah
If Macys was anything like Marshal Fields...yeah
We used to have officers who worked at Sears in loss prevention. We weren't prohibited. However policy strictly governed their behavior and what they could do. Eventually it got so frustrating they all ended up quitting. It's not about catching thieves and prosecuting them which is what the cops wanted to do...

Just from what I've picked up through the grapevine from friends, Macy's LP currently is not as glamorous as it used to be.
Very high turnover on their agents and not very good pay.
Why do you want to go to Macy's anyway?
Honestly, if you go to Saks 5 Ave, I. Magnin, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Barney's NY, they'll snatch you in a heartbeat.
Since you're an LEO you have an advantage, and if you have a degree on your resume you can negotiate with them for up to $20/hr to start.
They all have top of the line LP programs, hire the best, and I think you'll enjoy working with them a lot more.
You may also want to give some thought into working as undercover armed security on call, for special events or movie sets by signing up with a temp agency.
Just a thought!

Macys in my area start around $10/hour. LOTS of audit paperwork and the such. But their eyes in the sky catch everything. I love filling for Macy's LP. They often don't press charges though and just end up doing a civil penalty for what the people tried to steal. Gets pretty pricey really.
+1 on the idea to find a high rent place to work. I imagine they'd have much better pay.
Macys pays HORRIBLY! I was a LPM for them for a few years well actually a department store called Filenes before we were bought out by them. As soon as they took control salaries immediately dropped and we all were forced out. Sears is a good place for cops to work and so is JC Penney. try those two.

My biggest complaint about Macy*s isn't the pay, it's the clientele. Most people that shop there are enamored of the fact they shop there. Most of them think they're special and much more important than they really are. Macy*s reinforces that mindset through their policy.
The end result is you deal with a bunch of self-important, egotistical morons. I deal with morons daily as a LEO. At least in that capacity, I have some recourse. I had none at Macy*s. I ate a lot of sh!t. It sucked.
