    Am I the only one...

... that noticed all the recruitment ads for the CIA's National Clandestine Service?

Out of curiostiy, I went and had a looksy. Interestingly enough, my degree is one that they are recruiting heavily.

I think the Core Collector Operations Officer looks very cool. By no means do I have any movie-esque ideas of the job. I just think it would be very interesting... and the overseas thing could be very cool.

    This got my attention:
Competitive candidates will also possess impeccable personal integrity and the ability to handle ambiguity and to take calculated risks.
I don't think I have the knowledge of international politics to even entertain the idea.

Of course, there is no way my wife would consider it. Hmmm... more incentive? LOL

Ah well... I just thought it was interesting that they are recruiting like crazy in the Chicago metropolitan area.

I've seen the ads on TV too. "We're a cool place to work but we can't tell you anything about it." :D

NSA has also been advertising on TV. It is kinda funnny that agencies which officially did not exist not too many years ago are now openly recruiting like this.

There are a couple positions I actually looked at a bit. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near competitive enough for those jobs. Maybe once I get my master's degree in nuclear engineering, become fluent in Arabic, and get an honorable discharge from the military, I'll be able to toss my name in the hat. :D

Maybe they need to recruit in Baghdad.

I hear that there's some out-of-work nuclear engineers fluent in Arabic over there, but they may have some trouble with the background check

The Secret Service has been running ads on a couple of our radio stations in the DFW area. Some of my friends are thinking about going to their recruiting workshop.

Haven't heard anything from CIA though.

Yeah I keep getting asked by my friends if I am gonna go have a looksy. It's nuts. I always thought that you had to send in some kind of elaborate resume and then get listed if they like it and on and on, but this ad makes it sound like any Tom, ****, and Harry can try out.

Welp, after my experience in the military, I'm not touching that one. Just my 2 cents.

To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.

I don't know if that's just the automatic DQ, and everything else is case-by-case. Of course, maybe they just have to make exceptions. Perhaps they don't want to rule out someone who is fluent in Arabic, has extensive overseas travel experience, etc., etc., etc., but who smoked some crack a couple times.

It's interesting, because they do seem to encourage travel experience and such, but frequent travel overseas, especially to places ending in "stan," is probably going to make background checks a lot more intense.
