Hi ive been applying at a dew departments in the area specificaly LAPD and LASD, an was wondering what is the difference or what can I expect generaly from either. Ive heard that some Sherriff's depts stick you in corrections for a long time.

Their uniforms are brown. Ours are blue.

They work the jails before going out on patrol assigments. We don't.

Added: Both departments have their positive and negative traits. I chose LAPD because I didn't want to work in the jails for years before being assigned to patrol, and because I don't like their uniforms. Seriously. I mean, come on. Green and tan? Ugh. ;o)

I'm not crazy about tan & green but it's more the material and design (comfort/utility) of the uniforms (or lack of) that gets to me. If I were the man, I'd definitely allow the use of more practical/useful clothing (e.g. 5.11 tac pants and/or BDUs) for Custody and Patrol and save the pretty stuff for Courts or ceremonies.

There was a psychological study done that shows the tan and green uniforms illicit the most respect from people when dealing with officers wearing those colors. White got the least, if I remember correctly. They aren't horribly ugly, better than some of the greens that could have been selected.

We'd most likely just try to one-up each other on aspects of our departments that suck the most. Whoever has the best gripes "wins." :p

yeah i know it shouldnt be the biggest issue but I do like LAPD uniforms ie "the boys in blue", although LASD's look just like my old charlies or is that a bad thing?
