Some thoughts on OC...

Ya, but you are more apt to get their full, undivided attention with an ASP. Some people are just less susceptible to OC.

ROFL! The second time I pulled my ASP (back in 1995) the guy yelled "that's cute, you'll like it when I stick it up you're ***". I took his words to heart and all you could hear was the distinctive tinking sound of an ASP hitting the ground as I moved back and transitioned to the ol' side arm. This guy was a gorilla and we didn't have OC then He understood gun better than ASP!

But yeah, OC sucked! I got stuck next to a red headed deputy with very fair skin, who gave me about 15 seconds with the hose before he "united" with it for the afternoon and left me to the sit and whine recovery method!

Yeah, I was told that before the day was through I'd be "...making love to the fan." I wouldn't say I went that far, but I didn't venture very far from it for about 40 minutes.

The reactivation sucked! Just when I thought I was done (and was about to make some smart-a$$ remark about how it 'wasn't that bad') the second jolt hit me and I was back in front of that fan whining like a...well, something that whines a lot.

I will say this though: THANK YOU REAL POLICE FORUM CONTRIBUTORS who listed the possible side effects (or should I say "front" effects) of taking a shower after getting sprayed. I took my first shower with my gym shorts on and was spared any undo "torching." So, thanks to all those that chipped in in the past.

Or Buffalo Wings. We got the "Hurt Me BAD" flavor and pepper sprayed them when they arrived. My friend ate 5 before puking and spraying it out his nose. I ate the other seven, no problem.

Not quite OC, but we got exposed to CS at the academy. There was one recruit that was really worried about it. Since I had worked with it in the military, she asked me what she could do to lessen the effect.

Damn that little devil on the shoulder!

I told her to use a lot of Vaseline Intensive Care on all of her exposed skin and it would block the stuff from hitting her skin. :eek:

To this day, she'd probably gladly kick me for that piece of advice. :p

Hey, I got sprayed at my academy on Friday too! Man, that stuff sucks. I didn't feel a thing while I was fighting off my partner (who sprayed me twice because he didn't think it worked the first time), but once I got near the bucket I was on fire.

I laughed when I was typing up my notes and had to type "Full recovery within 30 to 60 minutes" There were like 3 out of the 20 of us who didn't feel it for at least 2 hours. We didn't have a fan, just buckets and a hose. We had to run blind around the parking lot like real men.

We were hit with the CS and the CN. We did a mile run on a hot day so that we could work up a good sweat beforehand, then into the gas house where we were led like lambs to the slaughter. OC was not around back then. In order to carry it now we have to take a dose of it, so I choose not to carry it. From what I hear, I think I would rather be tazed again any day. At least thats over in 5 seconds.:cool:

I was sprayed last year in the academy, and it was my first exposure. Yup, it sucks.....and all we had was a water hose and a fan after the shower.

I volunteer my time for the current academy victims...err....recruits when they get sprayed. It's much more fun watching them take the hit. I also give them a little advice to keep them focused during the drills. I usually end up catching some over-spray, so I tend to suffer somewhat with them.

I love watching the "macho" marines come in, touting how they have been exposed to CS, and have made it through the CS with no problem. I ask them afterwards and they say that the CS was a baby compared to the OC. I actually saw one who buckled under the pressure and quit the drill.

Talking with other LEO's who have taken a taser hit, myself included, many would take a taser ride for the full 5 seconds rather than be sprayed. Personally, you can put me down for 2 rides before I take OC again!

OC was pretty bad. Luckily our instructor put us through "guided imagery" first, which is basically hypnotism. Your subconscious is told to be calm and that you've done this before, as you visualize yourself being sprayed. As skeptical as I was when I started, it actually worked.

Two tips that I learned was to wear a hat, or something to keep your hair out of the way, and use Dawn or Sunlight dish soap to cut the grease that the pepper is suspended in. Just my two cents.

I used one of the wipes out on the street after I sprayed someone and failed to notice the direction of the wind. The wipe did not help at all. :eek:

best thing you could do is stand directly in front of a fan on high and toothpick your eyes open as the air dries out the oc. It hurts, and you'll have to go slow. The sooner you can get your eyes open the quicker they will dry. If you keep them closed (like I did) you'll tear up and that crap will stay in there until you do.

The instructors record every academy so that they can make fun of us later on...it's kinda funny 'cause we got to see the videos of our instructors getting OC'd...that was hilarious!!!
