    Sunglass recomendations for patrol

Hello all, as the title states, I'm looking for a good set of sunglasses. My current pair are a little to fru-fru for work and they tend to not stay on my face when I move with any quickness. I would like to find a pair that's rugged yet look nice. Also would like them have no issues staying put, but be comfortable as well. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I would recommend something cheap, that you won't be upst if they get broken, scratched, etc. while at work. You can get good looking "knockoff" glasses from a mall kiosk for about $10 and they are UV protection and all...They work great for me, and I don't cry when I lose 'em!

On a seperate note, are you a police officer? If so, PM DCLaw or Bearcat and get yourself verified, the LEO restricted forums here are the shiznit.

    Citicop.

You can get knock off Oakleys for about $10.00. If you get the M-frames, they will NOT come off of your face. Thats why the baseball players use them.

And Citicop has it right. Get Verified asap. You will pull a lot more weight and wont lose your screen name.

    Piss on the cheap stuff!!

Get Oakley's. Law enforcement discount if enough pairs are ordered.

I have half-jacket XLJs with 3 types of lenses (clear/black/persimmon). Very lightweight and I bought them initially for bike patrol.

I have always worn Oakley's. There lenses are some of the best. Of course, if you tend to break or lose sunglasses, then I recommend going to Walmart. If you are serious about sunglasses, go with the Oaks.

The wheels are turning on that I spoke to DC on a -21 a week or so ago and am just waiting on the status update.

I have actually had the pair of glasses I'm currently wearing for about 2 years so I'm doing pretty good. There have been a couple of incidents that I have come out of lucky to still have them so I'm torn on getting the real deal or knock offs. I'm also looking at the eye protection (impact) aspect as well as dimming the light.

I second this advice, since I've gone thru several pairs of the cheapies and it doesn't faze me when I lose or break them. On the other hand, I have seen coppers in near panic trying to find their $300 Oakley's after a fight or a foot pursuit.

On the seperate note, I know that I and others are waiting patiently to be verified.

I would go with the real oakleys. Like was said, with the government contract, you can get them rather cheap.

We should get a group together and buy a bunch so we can get a good rate.:D

Why pay $300 for Oakleys when there is a purchase program? Boith Oakleys and Rudy Project has purchase programs.

Why go through several pairs of head-ache-inducing $10 knockoffs when you can get an awesome pair of very inexpensive sunglasses.

Check out Rudy Project @ www.rudyprojectusa.com. Unlike Oakley, there is no minimum and you can get any color of lense and frame that you want... you are not limited to black and gray. Also, most of their glasses have replaceable lenses. For $15 you can replace scratched or damaged lenses. I have used them for work and mountain biking for years. My current pair has survived a 6 month tour in iraq, and more fights and foot chases than I can count!

Wiley-X makes some nice impact resistant glasses with changable lenses.

About half what oakleys tend to cost and they look pretty decent. Popular with the military, don't see too many cops wearing them though.

Most of the cops that I know wearing WileyX had them issued. I Was issued a pair when I went to Iraq... they are still there. I hated them! I don't know anyone that has purchased a pair with their own money... except for some cheap shooting glasses.

Howcome police don't use shooting glasses as sunglasses? They're making some now that are pretty stylish as well as rugged (take a peek at shooting and safety glasses on the Midway USA & Grainger web sites, for example - Not talking about the ones you see at Wal-Mart).

From what I've seen the Oakley's claim to meet the same ANSI impact spec as shooting glasses but aren't marketed that way - Must be a reason, and I just don't see a huge optical or style difference in a pair some brands of $20 shooting glasses versus a pair of $80 Oakley sunglasses.

It's hard to find a pair of polarized shooting glasses for some reason, but then again, polarization will black out some LCD screens that you may have to read, especially those using older technology. Come to think of it, it could be that the polarization may interfere with some holographic red dot sights, but I haven't tried using them with polarized sunglasses. That would be a worthwhile experiment - May actually help.

FWIW, Rudy meets the same ANSI standards, if I recall.

Like I said, I would rather have a pair of $80 glasses (with several replacement lenses) that doesn't give me headaches and allows me to see a little better than several pair of $20 sunglasses.

They don't sell direct unless you are a distributor or LE/military.
