Reminds me of high school...when I went, they had just instituted dog searches for drugs in the lockers. Parents and teens alike were outraged that these "armed police" were terrorizing their precious little babies with "vicious attack dogs".

They'd forgotten at the start of the year that they'd all signed waivers allowing searches, because the students only rented the lockers and they were still the property of the school (duh!). :D

Anyways....that's actually a good way to check for underage drinking. The students should be lucky the campus police are looking out for them, rather than complaining about their rights. Like someone said, all of the violent students were probably too drunk to move.

In my opinion this is a major transgression by the police and demonstrates the complete out of control nature of policing in the United States.

I mean, really, have you ever heard of an underaged college kid dying from drinking too much? No, college kids are much to smart to do that. They even tell me how smart they are. Repeatedly.

Have you ever heard of a college girl getting raped after she passed out at a college party? I haven't.

Drunken fights at a party? Never! Students prefer discussing philosophy.

And the sheer audacity of the police interfering with, er, um, unlawful activity. What are the police thinking, that they have some duty and/or right to enforce laws or something?

And the coup-de-gras, issuing a citation! My God man! Lumping these oppressed souls into the same group of hardened criminals as stop-sign runners. A travesty.

What has happened to the american police officer?

Maybe I come over for vacation next year, and maybe my daughter will come over for one year to be an student in the USA (when she is old enough). But don't expect me to come over promptly. I have my proffesion (police work), my house, my familiy and my friends right here and I want to hold that for a few more years.;)

But everybody screaming about Violating my rights when an officer only does his work is an stupid for me!!!! How about the killed kids live after an traffic accident made by an drunken driver? But -I have the right to be drunken! or - I have the right to be stoned, or - I have the right to beat up my kids/wife,husband, or,or,or. Everybody only have rights, for what we need the police or judges or the law?
Evenhand (Cop Movie): You can't be everybody's friend

There are two things I'm good in, the second is arresting people

I'm looking for Drug/Narcotic Unit patches together with DUI/DWI unit patches for a frame in our Anti-Drug-Team bureau

Also looking for Massachusetts Police and US Capitol City PD patches now!

I think I'd have to write the cops up, or at lest give them a stern talking to. The school policy looks like it stated no alcohol. They only gave fines to the people who were underage. If they were serious about stemming the drinking they would enforce the policy as written.:D

Confusion and disappointment that the police are mean? Check.

Shock that the police are 'party crashing' when there are actual violent crimes being committed elsewhere on Earth? Check.

Whiny 'I pay your salary' diversion with the 'fragle trust' nonsense? Check.

Mealy-mouthed threats to unleash the ACLU to defend the rights of nineteen-year-olds to slurp Fuzzy Navels and appletinis? Check.

Yep, it's all there. Our young Walter Winchell has all the makings of a real crackerjack newshound for the Village Voice , or the New York Press, or some other Lower Manhattan freebie fishwrap.

But now that the fragile trust is shattered, I hope that Chad and Muffy don't start taking their business elswhere. Maybe the groundskeepers could guard their next Take Back The Night rally or Dane Cook show, and those nasty old cops can sit at home, polishing their jackboots and eating meat.

I think the kids should watch old episodes of Bosom Buddies and learn to answer the knock at the door in unison... "Who is it" in a canny female voice

What do you guys and girls think of this?
As a University Officer I can say this, the VAST majority of our violent crime is alcohol-related (as in I can't think of one instance of violent crime here that hasn't been alcohol-related). Now, with that in mind, busting up parties and going out of our way to get alcohol violations generally also reduces other crime to include criminal damage, assaults, sexual assaults, DUI's, and a whole slew of other issues on campus. There is nothing illegal at all about a "knock and talk" so I don't see the issue here. In fact, it sounds like a good plan to increase the safety on that campus.
