    Driving instructors aren't always right..

I have only been pulled over once in a motor vehicle.

About 9 years ago I was going home around 2 AM and the CHP pulled me over and asked me why I was driving more on the left side of my lane instead of in the center. I told them that was how I was taught to drive by a professional driving school. That school taught me to line up the left side of my hood with the painted lines in the road. The officer told me to drive in the center of the lane, which I have done ever since that stop.

I know they were keeping an eye out for drunks that night. They only asked for my license, but they didn't run my name. They said they could tell I wasn't drinking by looking into my eyes. Once they found out that I wasn't drinking they said "Well I guess we don't need to bother with you anymore", told me to go the speed limit (I was going 70 - up until then I thought my speedometer was inaccurate and was reading 5 mph too fast), and let me go.

The driving school went out of business a few years ago. Gee I wonder why?

As long as your in your lane whats the difference? I tend to drive toward the left side of the lane as well but thats just my preference

Depending on enviromental situations ie traffic, road conditions, lighting etc, I drive in the middle of a two lane road. Wanna know why?? Here you go

Is that how you do it? In training I was just told to take their word for it.
Astronomical avatar of the week: The Hourglass Nebula: This formation of gasses was created when a dying star gently ejected its outer layers forming a glowing region of ionized gas as seen in the photo. The remaining core is known as a white dwarf, seen in the center. Our sun will leave a similar corpse behind after expending its nuclear fuel. This nebula is located in the constellation Musca, the fly, visible only in the southern hemisphere.

Well, I figured the CHP must have a good reason for telling me to drive in the center of the lane instead of towards the left side.

Maybe the verifieds can offer some feedback?

i'm assuming you mean california? i don't know what law they would have that says you have to drive in the center of a lane. that's kind of scraping for a violation. the only thing i could think of would be for the purpose of motorcycles, since they can split lanes in california.

honestly, that state needs to be an island.

Maybe he was articulating his probable cause for the motor vehicle stop while out looking for DWIs, and took the driving on or near the line as a possible sign of an intox driver. When it was discovered (through observation) that you were not intox, he let you go.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

That sounds the most likely to me.

Thanks. I wondered if that was the case. I don't remember any law saying you have to drive in the center of the lane either.

You're right I live in Californicate. I've heard we have laws regulating laws here. :D

I was driving a pickup truck at the time.

I thought about that too. Thanks for confirming it for me.
