Minority Officers here?

Just wondering if we have some "minority" officers here. To the minority and female officers here, have you experienced any issues amongst fellow coworkers.

This isn't a concern of mine, the thread is for the sake of discussion alone, not an agenda.

I'll start with my own experience.

During my academy I progressed pretty far into the process of getting hired at the agency that has recently hired me. For the most part, i was congratulated for my hard work by the other SPOs, however three individuals commented to me that it's because of my ethnic background that I had made it that far. Being a confident and secure person, I took no offense...especially because these three guys have performed very poorly and were all at the bottom of the class. In all likelyhood, none of them will become police officers!:D

I have seen officers get hired to even out the ratio of officers. Both color and male/female. I think this is wrong. However I do not have any complaint about the officers I work with. :cool:

P.S. as you can see from my avvy, I am yellow so I think I count as a minority. ;)

I have complaints against people I work with but I think the amount of retarded minority morons are about proportionate to the non-minority retarded morons so in that regard I'd like to think I'm not minority-ist.

I do know of one or two people that got to a supervisory position with barely three and a half years on the job so that makes me wonder a bit… especially when I think back when I worked with them and remember very vividly the fact that these two people had NO grasp on what we do let alone the laws and regulations. I wonder sometimes but not too hard because we have several supervisors of all races and sexes that really have a limited grasp on the laws we enforce.

I am one of the few supervisors at my department who does not suffer from acute cranial rectosis, which puts me in the minority.

Unfortunately, my lack of this particular affliction does indeed make the me the target for attacks of focused stupidity and waves of utter illogic at times.

Being of Hispanic descent, I would hope that any agency that hires me would be doing so because of my qualifications and not to fill a quota of "X" amount of Hispanics. I think that in any job, regardless if you are black, white, asian, gay, female, etc that as long as you prove your competency on the job, you will gain your co-workers respect sooner or later. There are always exceptions, but that's life.

Rep sent. If I were a minority officer, frankly I'd be embarrassed if I got hired or promoted on that basis. It's done all the time and it takes away from the vast majority of minority cops that are good officers.

I'm a minority, and I sponsored myself through a police academy. Nearing graduation, I was going through the hiring process with an agency. I remember a fellow cadet who told me that i would get hired with said agency because I was a minority candidate. I told him that I guess it had nothing to do with my clean background, work history, college degree, and the fact that I was state certified in law enforcement.

I'm all for diversity, but it does rips me when someone judges me that I got to where I am because of race, and not of my qualifications. But it rips me twice as much when a minority uses his/her race to get a said position.

The agencies I have been with have never treated me any different then anyone else. But I have never been the type of person to make everything a racial issue. You will see people who play that card.

I've seen good and bad from all walks of life. It shouldn't matter if you're male/female, black, white, or pink with purple polka-dots. If you're qualified and can do the job then you should get the job. If you're a dirt bag then you shouldn't get the job. Race, religion, gender, etc should not play into it.

I would hope I got hired cuz of my character and attitude...it takes all types of cops to do the job...and I'd like to think that I contribute greatly to the dept and the community. Maybe it's just a plus that I'm a feisty chick with tattoos! :D
