    Angry Venting

I just have to vent here for a minute. I had my criminal law class today and we were discussing current events in relation to the the constitution. First we got on the topic of the ten commandments, then we got on the topic of the shooting this morning in Chicago and the second amendment. Well, there is this girl in the class who is the epitomy of obnoxious. She seems to always be the center of attention in class and only her opinion is right and matters. Anyways...I am in the opinion that harsher gun laws and banning guns completely won't make too much of a difference on the black market, which is where most criminals get their guns. In essence only law abiding citizens would follow the no gun law. Well, I expressed this and she starts going on and on about police corruption being the cause of the gun control issue and how we can never fix it, cuz we can never get rid of police corruption. How police corruption is rampant and its their fault that so many guns are on the street. It got very heated, she just sat there blaming the gun control issue on police. Did I mention she is going to school to become an LEO???? Grrrrr....yeah, that is the kind of officer I want to work with! She had me so irritated, along with a few others in the class...She was just so cocky!!!!! Phewwww...Okay...I vented.

Yep - it is easy to blame the NRA and the government for shootings in the workplace. It is also easy for others to blame the ACLU for what they mistakenly refer to as "someone getting out on a technicality".

Personal responsiblity in all of its forms (from the citizens, government - police, etc) is the real answer IMHO. If everyone took personal responsiblity for thier actions or inactions, then I beleive that we will have solved at least some of our problems.

I am curious, how did this person equate "police corruption" with the gun control issue? I don't really see a correlation there or perhaps you left something out.

    Good posting...

Ask her for specific details of the apparent RAMPANT police corruption in your town/state/country !! Name names and departments.

Is there police corruption ? Yes. Is it rampant NO. the FEW that get involved in corruption make a big splash in the headlines. The MANY thousands of us who are not corrupt and rarely make any news media.

There are corrupt doctors, lawyers, politicians, presidents, plumbers etc. This is not an excuse for any of them and most certainly not for LEO's but cops are people too. If they get involved in this, than they should be punished accordingly. Firing, suspension etc. Whatever needs to be done.

Exactly my point. We were discussing the second amendment and how some people want to do away with it. She then begins to say how we should do away with it because the reason there is a gun problem is police corruption and we will never do away with police corruption, hence there will always be a gun problem and banning them completely would be the best solution.

I agree with MSCAP, as a group, I think you will find fewer corrupt cops that corrupt industry leaders or corrupt doctors, lawyers, or engineers for that matter. The obvious reason is the screening process that cops go through. I can tell you, with the exception of jobs in the defense industry which require a Q or better clearance, most jobs don't screen that well.

Unfortunately, because of the nature of the work, cops are usually on the forefront when it comes to headline news. If they screw up, or are just dirty, the media will always pick it up. (for instance in Palo Alto - two cops have been indicted on assault under color of authority charges - although it shouldn't reflect on the other 100 or so officers doing thier job, it does).

I am still wondering the logic in the statement equating gun control and police corruption.

She told us today in class that most criminals get their guns from corrupt cops. That is the correlation. I just especially found it disturbing to find someone who is pursing a carreer in LE feel that there are SOOO many corrupt cops and so anti-cop (that's the feeling I get from her)....and yes...I agree...I have researched the subject and the % of corrupt officers is very, very small. People that open their mouth with ignorance of a subject just reallly piss me off!

"More guns less crime" By author John Lott, be sure to purchase the revised edition.
This is the greatest book ever printed on the subject that prooving the more gun laws goverment creates the more crime rates increase.

What they fail to see about the "Masacare" is that the victims were not armed and unable to protect themselves. Had they been allowed to carry, perhaps they could have neutralized the assalaint.

Gun control is a series of laws enacted to keep the innocent law abiding people from fighting back.

Criminals break laws, there fore creating more laws to keep them from guns is not going to work. Obviously.

Tell this person to enroll in Logic 101 or a Reasoning class. Her statement makes absolutely no sense. Why would a cop, even a corrupt one, provide a firearm to a criminal? How old is this person?

LOL....She is 25...I have no idea where she gets her facts, I was wondering that myself. Maybe she is a fan of "The Shield"...who knows...She actually has been taking classes there for 3 years and is pretty well know to the CJA teachers...I expected a little more INTELLIGENCE to come out of her mouth knowing she has been in school this long.
