The truck, the doe, the State Trooper, and me... (highway story, slightly graphic)

EDIT: I came here to share a story of how a very kind-hearted State Trooper went out of his way to help both myself and a badly injured deer. The reason the story was so long was because I wanted to do it justice and express my gratitude towards the trooper. I doubt many others would have done what he did. He was a true animal lover and a very good man. I literally sat here gaping at the screen in shock when I read that some of you think I made this up. I can't imagine how demented I would have to be to make up something so tragic as the violent death of a deer by a careless driver.

I typed out that long story as meticulously as I could for a reason, and I thanked all police officers for their tireless work in keeping the highways safer from people like that erratic truck driver.

I'm really not sure what else to say. I came here to praise the trooper for going above and beyond his duties in helping a civilian and an animal. I worked hard to try to convey all the emotion that we both went through looking at that poor tortured deer. It was never, ever, ever, EVER my intention to make people think I was "story telling". But if that's how my retelling of the events comes off, I will delete it so that I won't make a mockery of a very sad day.

Somehow this doesn't surprise me. I see people doing the stupidest things daily in the town where I live. All to apparently save a moment, not even considering that they are probably, and most likely hindering someone else from traveling to their destination.
Sorry to hear this one ended up on such a sad note.:(

Sorry.. this is just my opinion but.. risking a human life (yours or someone else doing it) for an animal is ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I love my pets and I love pets. But I'm not about to risk my life, anyone elses, or expect anyone else to risk their life for my pet, or any other animal.

Now, I'll admit, I didn't read the WHOLE thing, cause you need to put it in paragraphs, but from what I've read it was a bit scary that you were close to being hit by cars to help the doe off the highway..

I don't buy one word of that overly wordy, paragraph deprived story. And if it is true. It's not a good idea to approach a wounded animal. Nor is it a good idea to be stopped on the side of the road when it's "too dark" to see a license plate.

This is hard to believe but whatever. Try to include paragraphs once in a while, you know, for the sake of it :p

I only got about 1/3 of the way through, then had to quit reading because I was getting a headache.

Yes. It was an animal in need. I know that if I'd been hit by a truck and was laying on the side of the road with broken limbs, I'd be thankful if someone stopped and took me to the hospital in their car. Maybe I do love animals a bit too much, but I will always risk my life to help an innocent creature in need. If that makes me foolish, well, what can I say?

Anyway, all I really wanted to do was share my story of a State Trooper who was a fellow animal lover. I was also hoping that there was a slight chance he would be on these boards and might respond. Maybe other civilians would read my story and SLOW THE HECK DOWN on the highways and watch for deer trying to cross. This doe and her baby lost their lives, and they didn't have to.

But yeah, I got a pretty poor reception for my efforts at writing a recount of the events, which still confuses me, so I took the story down to avoid further mockery. I put about 30 minutes into writing it to try to do it justice, so my feelings and my writer's pride are pretty damn hurt right now. But hey, I guess it just goes to show that being a former bunny will not only tarnish your reputation but your general credibility as well!! It's okay, I'll still bring brownies and chocolate chip cookies to the local barracks every other Friday, and I still appreciate, respect, and admire all LEOs.... even the overly-suspicious, cynical, story-mocking ones. ;)

That you're foolish! .... The fact that you'd run out onto a dark highway in the middle of the night and try to move a wild and injured animal who probably has several hundred pounds on you proves it. I'm pretty sure you didn't have road flares or a bright orange vest to signal the other drivers on the road of your actions. So not only did you risk your life, but those of many others.

No one is doubting your compassion, or respect and admiration for LE, but more so as to your lack of common sense. There is also NO WAY IN HELL that the trooper even considered letting you put that animal into your car. Not only because he was concerned for your safety, but also because of the liability on him...
This wasn't somebodys house cat, it was a friggin' deer!!!!

Well I think the bashing in this one is getting a little bit out of hand. You all need to relax a little bit I think...

The trooper did not want the deer to die as much as I didn't. I told him there was an all-night emergency animal hospital about 30 minutes away. I'd brought my rat there once when it went into diabetic shock. I knew they treated wild animals like squirrels and skunks as well as domestic pets. Surely they would attempt to treat the deer(?) Not only did this trooper NOT object to the idea of me trying to save the deer, he helped me attempt to lift the deer into the back of my hatchback. He only asked that I stay on his left side. The deer's legs were obviously horrendously broken. There was not much she could have done in the way of kicking anyone.

I don't for the life of me understand why I'm being treated this way. I was helped by an exceptionally kind trooper and came here to praise him. That was all I was trying to do.
