Suspended, Sent To Sensitivity Training - Be Careful What You Say!

Be careful what you say on these forums! You never know who's reading...
AP - Three police officers were suspended over Web site comments about their jobs and derogatory language about gays and the mentally disabled.

The suspensions came after two other officers were suspended in June over comments and photos posted on the same site, MySpace.com.

In the latest case, the Fayette Urban County Council approved a recommendation on Thursday to suspend Aaron Noel, Richard Sisk and Paul Stewart on administrative charges of conduct unbecoming of an officer. Each was suspended for 80 hours without pay and was ordered to undergo sensitivity training.

The police department began investigating the Web sites in March after they were discovered by another officer.

Last month, officers Gene Haynes and Adam O'Quinn were suspended over postings about an officer who had arrested country singer John Michael Montgomery in February on a charge of drunken driving.

Haynes posted an altered photograph of Montgomery and a fan, in which the arresting officer's face was placed on the fan's body.

If my mute button malfunctioned during almost any of my calls, I'd be in sensitivity training.

What exactly do they do to you in sensitivity training? Has anyone ever attended sensitivity training that was useful or interesting? Or is it just seen as a punishment you have to sit through, and not something that's actually useful?

I basically imagine it being the exact way they show it in South Park. A man that looks similar to Hitler forces you to repeatedly draw hundreds of finger paint pictures of people getting along and equality. I could be wrong though.

The "sensitivity training" that I received in the acadmey was just next to ridiciulous.

All you need to know is to treat everyone the same. Straight, gay, black, white, whatever. Treat them like a person, and all will go good.

Our sensitivity Training was close to Phantasm's except we also couldn't make someone become an Overachiever... to do that was as bad as sexual harrassment.

Our was departmentwide quarterly training to maintain certification.

I know a Chief Deputy who was all excited about training set up for his department. We couldn't figure that out knowing him like we did.

The training was cultural sensitivity and sexual harassment.

Turns out he misread it...he thought it was going to be cultural harassment and sexual sensitivity! ;)

Usually it involves shock therapy followed by watching really large TV's with sappy love story movies on them while your eye lids are held open by a metal device and the trainer stands over you putting eye drops in your eye to keep them hydrated until you submit!

Some of them I've found interesting but mostly it involves trying to stay awake as they go over boring stuff that should be common sense but because of the few Officers that are either morons or just incapable of self control over their actions we all have to now sit through...

The ones put on by African American instructors mostly were about how the police have abused and oppressed them for centuries and we are a bunch of stupid pigs. Seriously, I've gotten up and walked out of a couple. They've been nothing more than a stage for some wild eyed activist to vent all their frustrations of not being able to be a productive member of society by haranguing to a captive audience, us.

We had a Russian woman put on a really good class about the Russians that were coming over here. She was very objective and taught us a lot about their fascination with cars and stealing them. But also a lot about why they react as they do with police and other government officials.

On the other hand, a Hispanic woman was boring as hell, trying to preach diversity more than teaching about Hispanic culture. Hell, I think I knew more than she did about simply because I grew up around Mexicans in Texas.

The sexual harassment stuff was mostly legal content. It should have been informative to the idiots who couldn't distinquish work from play.... But it did reinforce my beliefs in being very careful around the wimmen I worked around. Some thought me to be standoffish, but I saw too many "friends" at work turn into lawsuits.

Me & the operations VP of a company I worked for were sent to Sensitivity training once... After about 15 minutes into the class he asked her if she was one of those "women libbers"... I thought he was gonna get himself fired, but she called him a pig fart or something like that, and the class went on.

I went to sexual harassment training one year that was taught by a female lawyer.
I remember coming away from that training thinking that the work enviroment she was describing was so "sterile" that it probably doesn't exist. I thought that even her office probably wasn't as free of sexual innuendo and joking as she said the workplace should be.

We had an incident on the job that triggered them to come back and give everyone a refresher on sexual harassment.

I was sitting in the room when a different (male) lawyer walked in to give us the training. This guy in the room decided to be funny and said, "Where's the broad that taught it last time? Man she was stacked." I guess that he figured that since the instructor would think he was funny - he figured wrong.

Note to all: Don't joke about women in an insulting fashion at sexual harassment training. ;)

I was taught in my sexual harrasment training (oops, I mean course) that even so much as opening a door for a female could be considered sexual harrasment. I must be dumb, igorant, or both because I thought that was called chivalry. Apparently not now.
