    Workloads.

Hello, folks. fellow police officer here. This is my first time on this forum and i'm sure this thread's been posted before. Anyway, I was wondering do you folks ever take your workload home? I basically get a new assignment everyday and I obviously can’t do it all. But do you take yours home?
If not, have you? I have. By the way, I’m 26, have no kids, and no girlfriend/wife. So should I? And i'm not looking for any promotions. Thanks.

    Don't do it.
Don't let them think you are coping well with the paperwork because they will only give you more in the long run.
A snout has told me he's got a set of nostrils, so go and get a W so we can spin his drum to see if he's got any monkey gear - The Sweeney.

Before anything else, I'd like to welcome you to the forums. I hope you can bring some insight to your job :D

    In answer to your question:
No, we have a General Order which prohibits us from taking any work home to do. They get pissed off at you if you do.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "I basically get a new assignment everyday and I obviously can’t do it all. " Are you a detective or something?
Just like oldbill says - they will only give you more.
    What state are you in?

Well thank you. I didn't know you guys had a general order that prohibits you over there. Not over here in Bermuda. That's where I'm from. And yeah I do get a new assignment everyday if not every other day. No i'm not a detective i'm a regular constable. But my briefcase is about to explode with paperwork (especially traffic accident files). But I guess you're right. They probably would give me a sh*t load of paperwork. Thanks for the advice.

    XGames,
We have what we call in-service tests we must take, seminars to attend, meetings, all that crap that goes with the job.
Our union demands that we get paid overtime for any work done outside of our regular duty hours.
Can't you just call out-of-service at the office until you can get your paperwork done? Or is there only one of you?

Yeah sometimes I do but other times i just wanna go home. I don't care too much about overtime cause I don't like feeling like a robot sometimes. See?

You cannot go back to the office about an hour before your shift ends, or sometime in the middle of the shift? My cops stay out of service on that job until they get done with the paperwork or they sit at the office and do it sometime during the night. r
I am guessing you are relatively new in your career... I'm only saying that because a lot of new cops are very gung-ho and don't mind working over their shift to do paperwork, and going to court. (They get over it quickly though!!)
I would think your boss would want you to get the paperwork completed ASAP while it is fresh in your mind, and so you don't forget to do it/lose it. They don't mind that you are far behind?

On a side note: you need to have a life outside of work or it will eat you alive. Find a hobby (or a girlfriend) to relieve the stress. :D

Yes they do mind to a certain extent but I don't care anymore. Some of them don't have lives BUT the job. The only hobby I have in my life is Bmx freestyle. That's why they call me X-games cop. YEs I do go back in the office about an hour before my shift ends and in the middle of the shift too. But I'll take your advice on NOT doing it in my spare time. Thanks for the advice.
