Does law enforcement run in the family?

Here's a question for those of you who are, want to be, or have been LEOs: Which of your family members are/were also in law enforcement? Of those, which ones were in law enforcement before you joined? How did having family members in law enforcement influence your decision to pursue that career? How have you influenced others in your family to enter law enforcement?

My father is an attorney. Since I could never win an argument with him I did the next best thing....Get the training to learn how to beat him up:p

Fortunately, my father does not do criminal work, just civil/probate.

I have a number of relatives in the criminal justice system in Texas. But they are on the other end of it. One is currently in the federal prison and a number of my cousins have worked for the state of Texas in sort of an endentured way.:D I'm the black sheep.

I'm the only one in my family. My brother is preparing to go to law school to be a defense attorney. All his friends will be his best clients.

My older brother Ray was the first, then came me and then my youngest brother Pat. All 3 of us are now retired as Sergeants from Atlantic City N.J.

Next came my daughter Jennifer with the Egg Harbor City N.J. P.D. then my nephew Brian with the Atlantic City N.J. P.D.

No one else is Law Enforcement in my family (although my father's father was locked up in Baltimore as a member of the Irish Mob). I'm also the first military cop.

I know what you mean. My family seems to have a penchant for doing armed robberies.... One is really good with computers so he decided to assist the Texas DMV in making driver's licenses...... Without their knowledge.

I guess they have their way of getting adrenaline rushes and I had mine.... They're still my cousins and I used to see them once in a while when I went back to Texas and they weren't in prison or jail. We still got along, I just never invited any to come up to Oregon and visit....:eek: Growing up around them probably made me a better cop, I learned early how to think like a crook! And I damned sure learned how to fight early on.

Long, long line. From the captain of the military detachment with the pilgrims on the mayflower, Miles Standish, to myself. When they erected their colony at Plymouth, the military unit was the LE of the colony as well.

In the early 1700's an ancestor of mine was elected first constable in New Jersey's history.

My great-great-great-great grandfather was a police officer in Philadelphia in the late 1800's- early 190's

My grandfather was an MP in the Air Force

My father is currently an officer in a small town up north.

Uncle (now retired) and two cousins were/are LEOs in Chicago area......

All were former military LEOs as well.....

My Dad was a cop for a couple of years almost 35 years ago before he went into the military, things were VERY different back then and he has some very amusing stories to tell, things that would cost me my job and pension if I re-enacted them today:rolleyes:He's the only other cop I know of.

The other side of the family are constantly getting into trouble in one way or another. All of them, even those who have been well in the $hit, are proud of what I do though and it hasn't caused any problems.
