As seen in photo above (link below) youthful demonstrators riding on cars flaunted the Mexican flag while others threw gang signs. Concord police made no move to arrest or ticket protesters that violated motor vehicle safety codes, apparently fearing reprisals from Mexicans

We are slowly losing this country. Pretty soon we will all speak Spanish. Call me old fashioned, but if you move here you should have to learn to speak the American/English language. We should not have to learn yours.

Yes I agree. Americans welcome immigrants who come here LEGALLY.

Most Americans just want Illegal Immigrants to go through the process like everyone else has. That being said, many will never do that. Many will stay in areas dominated by Spanish speaking people and never learn English.

Being in law enforcement, my long time girlfriend thought it would be a good idea to obtain another degree in Spanish.

I can speak some Spanish, but really have enough interest to be fluent.

Perhaps in 10 years I will be change my mind as the population changes.

I want to start this by saying that I do not want this thread to turn into an anti-Hispanic one. Because I live with and work with many outstanding Hispanic men and women in LE. But my wife and I were thinking about this not-so-far-off hypothetical situation tonight:

In my city, Hispanics make up over 52% of the total population. That gives them a majority on terms of political power over all other races. What happens when the "minority" becomes the "majority" in terms of political power? Do you think people will just accept the change in status?

I think it was Valor who made a EXCELENT point earlier. Illegals are just that, illegal. But then you get your people who cry and say well they do the dirty jobs, sure they do, but what about all the people on welfare. Make them do it, and if they dont do it, well, bye bye $$$$.

Anyone see the sign from the little 8 year old kid saying "My daddy isn't a criminal" and i'm thinking these people are protesting saying everybody should be able to come here legally or not legally. I betcha 90% of them down at the protests were illegal. Why didn't the INS have some fun?

I'm not anti-Hispanic. I'm anti-illegal. I agree that there are many hard working legal and for that matter illegals in this country. But, it is still America.

The idea of giving illegals "legal" U.S. ID's is just outrageous. It is just the beginning. I wish I had a solution. I like the one China came up with, with the wall, but that won't happen.

Here is where I’m lost. If someone comes to America, for whatever reasons, and they claim they want to be an American citizen. Why when an issue like this displays itself do they fly their country flag? I would imagine that flying the American flag would be more appropriate. I can understand being proud of where you are from, but they are in essence asking another country to take you in and treat like it’s own.

As far as the stereotypes Chicago30 is correct on this, that’s the first thing I thought about when I first looked at the picture. These kids are making a very strong statement, however they have the stupid ones (ie throwing up what appear to be gang signs) mixed in with them causing more damage to their cause then they realize.

Seems to me that, like France right now, a lot of these younger people probably don't even know what they are marching/protesting about. Just goin along with the crowd. I wonder if these mexicans even realize how foolish they look flashing gang signs when they want laws allowing them to break the law by being in country? Want to make an impression, make us see that you are proud to be here and deserve it - fly those stairs and stripes.:rolleyes:

I don't even see why this is an issue. Not a legal citizen of the US? Get out, or get arrested. We cna't just give out thousands of citizenship papers when we have many, many other people taking the LONG, and LEGAL route.

And it was originaly used as a gang affiliation sign when their were tension between East coast and West coast rappers.

Just like we all learned Native American languages when we took over this land .... right???

With numbers come power. It will start with a couple foreign language channels to cater to ethnic minorieis that dont wish to learn or speak another language. Eventually it may be the power to get enough people elected to change laws, law enforcement ideals and immigration laws.

If this war in Iraq teaches us anything as a Nation, it should teach us that not everyone will embrace our way of life. Some people don't want to live in a democracy, others don't want to give up their traditions, or their own ideals. (no matter hw good we tell them our way is :rolleyes: )

Throughout history people in mass numbers will occupy other lands and change those lands to suit them - it is only a matter of time before the United States we know now is gone and a new United States takes its place. I hope the new one is as good, or better than the old.
