    When it rains is pours.....(venting)

So as many of you know I work for the Security Office at a small college. Well last night was one of those nights that after all was said and done and I was getting ready to leave for the night, if I had the means I probably would have put my uniform on the boss' desk and never returned.

A little background: my boss needs to grow a pair. There are several things that are inherently true when you are the director of a security office on a college campus, one of those things is that not all the students are going to like you and the things you and your officers do. Well, when the Student Association complains to him, instead of backing up our actions and the job that we are doing, he folds and we get spoken to. He needs a backbone. So the SA tells him that we are not doing our jobs because there was a fight on campus and it took us too long to get there - 2 minutes from call to arrival, and the following weeked there was another fight that we were never even called to that took place within the confines of a touwnhouse. So he yells at us saying 2 minutes was too long and we need to be "more visible".

Sat at 5am there was a Townhouse that caught fire. The 5 people inside gave our guys hell for entering the house even though they were passed out and stoned and would, without question (according to the Fire Department), have died if we weren't there to get them out. The whole time 1 chick is telling one of our guys she's gonna kick his *** and one of the males keeps saying he was gonna punch one of our guys. I wasn't present for this or something would have been done. Long story short - they all got to go to their places and nothing has been done and my boss has told our guys that we are not to fine them for their actions. On top of that he asks the guy on the receiving end of the verbal assault if he'd give the girl and guy a ride to their places after they threatened him.

So last night we go to break up a 300+ person party following our protocol. Goes up the ladder and eventually I called to have the PD show up (as seems to be the trend and they don't mind - they're all friends of mine). Takes them a long time to arrive because they know the deal and called two other departments to come for help, as we wait getting bottles thrown at us and an insuing verbal assault by people in the middle. PD shows up with a K9 unitwho is always welcome (I love that dog). Well it's a cluster. About an hour after all starts, the president of the SA approaches me - yelling. I told him not to take the tone he was taking with me. He continues. I warned him politely again. Continues. I started back at him and he's about the size of my leg. Got interesting and Ikept creeping in hoping he'd lay just one finger on me - doesn't. We went at it for about 10 minutes. He gets into it with one of the PD. Continues for a little longer until he's taken away by someone else.

Given the past - I can only see myself getting the brunt of all this BS because the SA pres will complain. This is going to turn into a ****storm.

To make matters worse. I decide to go to the range today to let off some steam. Go to WalMart for ammo adn go the way I don't usually go because my buddy usually drives whenever we've come from wallyworld. I get turned around and finally head in the right direction. This is eastbumfook VT. I'm going 45, or at least I thought I was, go past a cop and look down - 45. No biggie it's 40 here. WRONG. 35 and he has me at 55. Boo. I didnt' know my jeep went that fast. Anyway. Get a $160 ticket for my mistake. Not complaining about it - just frustrated. It was my fault but I think I need to get my speedo checked. He said he would have cut me a break but not much he could do with 20 over. I told him no biggie. Take the ticket and he says - I hope yoru day gets better. Funny how I told him I was heading to the range and I even asked for directions from where I was. I was surprised he didn't ask if I had any handguns on me. He saw the AR case in the back cause he asked if it was loaded but he didn't know that I had my G22 on my side with the new S&W 637 in my pocket.

Not eventhe range made me feel better after all this.

I tell ya. A couple of months ago I dealt with a kid on 6 hits of acid runnin around neked. Spray did nothing to him, no pain complience (at the time we didn't know what he was on). Cuffed thrown to the floor, I'm told I broke his nose and he lifted me and one of our other guys off the floor. This was after he threw a microwave at me. Now he's about 175 lbs or so. I'm 320 and our other guy is about 190 or so - on the floor with all my body weight on him and he lifts us up - I would have rather dealt with that again then this BS last night. I can only imagine the **** that's gonna come outta this. I bet I'm called a racists because the SA pres is black. This is VT - there aren't a lot of black people at this school so whenever we confront em - it's a race thing. My boss needs some balls.

Are you sure you don't work at my part-time job? I work security for some extra cash at a local college here. One thing that you have to get used to is, you're always wrong. You do what you're told, you're wrong. You don't do something, you're wrong. Case in point: I write several parking citations, following a written policy we have. The people complain, I get told by my supervisor to take back and void the tickets. The next day, the chief complains that we're not writing enough parking citations.

    I feel your pain!

And here I was thinking my boss was the only one without a backbone. The things that really gets me is that I actualyl like my boss as a person and usually as a boss but when it comes to sticking up for us, well, he doesn't. I met with the Corpral (sp?) after everything last night (he's a friend of mine) and he was bitching about everything.

If I was in any other town but the one I got the ticket in, I wouldn't have gotten one. I know almost all of the police officers in the surrounding towns except this one. I wonder what this is gonna do to the open application I have at that department.

Can't wait til this summer when I move.

Unfortunately I think that is the case at almost every college around the country. It is a shame that these people(can't call them kids, as they are my age) act this way. It gives all of us college students a bad rep.

All in all you have to remember that the next night will be better. And the range is always a good place to blow off steam.

PM me. I don't want to make that public.

I was just thinking of something else. The SA pres, we'll call him AHole, is not from around here. My wife used to be a Resident Director at the college which is a live in position, at the same time I was working for the security office. I was working one TurkeyDay and AHole was still at the college cause he lived to far away. My wife and I opened our home to AHole so he could have a TurkeyDay meal and not be alone - this is the thanks I get. I'm ready to move on - I have been affiliated with the school since 98 in some way - either student or security. I don't look forward to the meetings I will be having tonight with students (assuming they're back from detox) and maybe the ballsless boss. I'm about ready to speak my mind but I am going to need this reference when I go out for Police work in the near future.

I hate Murphy and his stupid laws.

EDIT: I just noticed the pic in my sig - I probably look similar last night.....:p

I like the ink-work you have. It's about time for another one for me....

And if you are looking into becoming a cop, make sure you get a good lawyer for the ticket....I'm temporarily DQ'd cuz of those....

Having bosses sans balls can really suck...

I am looking into police work - funny too cause I have an open app in the town where I got this. I really have no grounds to appeal anyway. I was speeding, even if my speedo was correct I was still 10 over at min. I thought I was only 5 over but I guess the big tires on the Jeep have messed with the speedo a little. My speedo was reading 45 and he got me for 55. Oh well. He was a nice guy anyway and was polite and professional the whole time. No quams - just sucks.

The big tires on the jeep may only effect it for a mile or two an hour.

Get your spedo fixed and bring the certificate to court for how much it was off. Beg the judge to change it to defective equipment. Especially if you have the receipts where you have fixed everything. That will be much easier to get past with your application.

Good thought. I'll make some calls.

This was the first real shouting match I've been in in a LONG time. Not fun... I just had my meeting - wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

Actually I disagree. Depending on how big his tires are it can easily throw a speedo off by 10+ mph.

I'd check your transmission too. That's another thing that's bad about throwing your speedometer off.
